From a moral perspective, you may be right, they should clean up the mess they made. From a realistic perspective, if you want the mess to ever be cleaned up, then don’t hold your breath waiting for them to do the right thing…
I think your argument is a little outdated because libre software has come a long way in the past few decades. I couldn’t imagine not being able to turn a manuscript into a publishable product with FOSS software in the state they are today.
If your argument is that it would take longer because someone has to relearn the interface, that’s just because they’re used to one and not the other. If it’s because they prefer features that the other doesn’t have, that’s just preference but easily circumvented.
The only other way I could see there being a difference is because of patented features, but that’s a discussion that’s already been had in this thread. And it’s not about open-source developers being in any way worse than closed-source developers.

If they were genuinely curious and wanted to know an answer to that question, then why would they post it in a community where men couldn’t respond? That seems disingenuous.
Why not go to 4chan or xitter and ask the men there why they don’t like feminism? Cause I assume that’s where they’re seeing all these “men saying feminism is bad.”
But generalizing it as all or most men doing this and then posting it somewhere only women can comment, just seems like they’re looking for a circlejerk/echo chamber where everyone will reaffirm their biases/assumptions.
Let’s also not pretend that every self-proclaimed “feminist” is solely concerned with her own rights. Lots of people on the internet call themselves feminists without really understanding a thing about feminism. You could more accurately call them “pseudo-feminists.” The “man-hating feminist” stereotype comes from somewhere, and the error is in calling them “feminists,” not in saying that they hate men.
If they’re reinforcing toxic masculinity culture, and instead of dismantling systems of oppression they make it their goal to participate in those structures as the oppressor, then they’re not feminists. But a lot of women do this while calling themselves feminists.
So I think a lot of the hate and criticism directed towards “feminism” is really directed towards pseudo-feminism, and people don’t understand the difference because how likely is someone to read bell hooks or carol gilligan when it seems like all the so-called “feminists” on social media are repeating stuff like “gatekeep, gaslight, girlboss” (which is literally just women participating in patriarchy, not dismantling it).
I mean if you don’t want people confusing feminism with pseudo-feminism, that’s fine and understandable. But you can’t really pretend all of the criticism directed at pseudo-feminism under the guise of feminism is exclusively geared towards removing women’s rights. By understanding the problem, you can begin to address it. So police your own, and call people out when they’re promoting pseudo-feminism and calling it “feminism.”
A good indicator, is that if someone is telling men that their feelings don’t matter, then they’re not really a feminist.

The great thing about open source is that it’s generally developed by people who use it. Proprietary software is just developed by people who get paid by someone who’s just doing it to make a profit…

I don’t know why any company with hundreds of thousands of dollars to spend on commercial LLM APIs wouldn’t just build and self-host their own LLM fine-tuned on data relevant to their work…

Pulling that rug is going to have a lot of consequences in a lot of places all over the world - not just the US - and will ultimately yield a lot of chaos.
That chaos has been long overdue, honestly.
We could have made a gradual transition to a more sustainable paradigm, had we begun investing societal resources in it years ago when people were calling for it. That didn’t happen, the oligarchs doubled-down on the old paradigm, and smothered anything trying to build the new paradigm so it couldn’t compete. They’ll deserve every bit of economic pain this brings them.
For all the working class people who depend on their 401ks, or who will get laid off during a recession, yeah it’s gonna suck. It’ll hurt. But these are the birth pains of a new era. Let’s try to make sure this new era turns out to be an altruist instead of a sociopath like the last one?
Again, we could have made a smoother transition to the inevitable. However, society collectively decided to put its head in the sand and pretend it could bring back some glorified past that never was.
Sooo… as someone who was trying to spread the word several years ago, and was shunned and ridiculed for it, the schadenfreude is going to be freaking real. I’ll be starving in a ditch with everyone else and still saying “I told you so.”

I mean sure, it won’t cover these people’s mortgages or probably even healthcare. That sucks, it really does. But let’s starve big tech of the expertise that they so obviously disdain, and contribute our time and energy to building better alternatives.

Ugh, nothing “intuitive” should ever be patentable. Can you imagine if “horizontally-ruled paper” was patented? Or “handles on cooking pans,” “shirts with two sleeves,” or anything of that sort?
Like, why should anyone have to avoid an obvious feature just because someone else did it first? It’s insane.
Also, FOSS projects and non-profits should be exempted from patent restrictions.
Technological development reached a plateau, but shareholder value still needed to grow!
