  • However you feel about RMS, I think we can all agree that the FSF goofed up.

Whether it was a defiant announcement that they won’t let freedom-hating SJWs cancel Stallman, or an announcement of accountability, apology, or steps to address his behaviour — they should have made some kind of statement instead of just letting Stallman himself announce that he was returning without much explanation.

  • I much prefer macOS to Windows, and Gnome is a good transition from macOS.

I use a trackpad, and never found the need to use min / max buttons. I use the upper left hot corner to display all windows, and lower left to display the desktop.

On Mac I use 4 finger swipes a lot to transition between workspaces for applications I want to use full screen. So those gestures in Gnome 40 sound like a welcome addition, and I’m sure they’ll go some ways to convince more Mac users to try Linux.

I know Gnome and especially Pop!_OS are meant to be very keyboard-centric. But I’m quite used to using a trackpad.

Well, I’m transitioning into using TWMs like Sway now, but Gnome is definitely my favorite DE.

I’m also forced to use Windows a lot, but don’t enjoy it at all.

  • Not sure…

What I’m thinking is an additional “mark all as read button” for situations when you may have many replies. And also if a comment is replied to it should automatically be marked as read.

What I find is sometimes I have a notification. I open it and reply. Then I still have a notification icon, and have to go back and mark as read.

Edit: re-reading the OP. Is there already a mark all as read button? Never mind.

  • I don’t use Brave because of the cryptocurrency thing. “Basic Attention Token” sound dystopian. And if handing over your data for free to corporations is a bad idea, it’s also a bad idea even if you get a couple of bucks worth of cryptocurrency in the process.

Brave seems like it very much comes from the right wing “Libertarian” ideology.

  • Federated social media platforms may always be smaller than the for-profit platforms which use all kinds of tricks to turn people into commodities: tracking users, using targeted advertising, having psychologists on the development team to “gamify” everything, incentivizing people to turn themselves into “content creators” and “influencers”, create and exploit addictive behaviour by having infinite scrolling pages and adjusting content based on “engagement” data.

So Lemmy won’t make you rich - but I think you’re ok with that.

  • They are responsible though. Anyone who creates technology should consider how it could be used and implement features for safety.

The consequence of not taking a stance to protect the targets of fascist rhetoric and violence is that you quickly get a space dominated by fascists. And the consequence of that is your project needs to be shut down or abandoned.

Take a look around at platforms like Parler, Voat, and Gab for some real world examples. The slur filter is completely justified. The developers should receive community support for recognising and taking on their responsibility.

  • There’s plenty you could post about China’s history, language, people, food, art, landscape, etc. if you don’t like what you see.

It seems like many people who claim to be critical of both the US and China are much more critical of China, and are also more likely to make generalizations about China, and Chinese people when they can more easily make distinctions about the US and American people.

If you’re actually equally critical of the US, Canada, Australia, etc. then you should be just as vocal about PRISM, ICE, treatment of asylum seekers, wage slavery, police, prisons, and so on.

  • Thank you for creating it, and congratulations on the release.

I’ve been using the beta version for a while now, and it’s working well.

I haven’t encountered any major issues / crashes.

Is it helpful to have suggestions / feature requests? I’m sure there are improvements you’re working on and don’t want to bother you with things that aren’t specifically bugs.

Have you used the Apollo app for Reddit? On that app I like the “compact” appearance as it fits a lot on the page. I think another thing I like is being able to drag a post to the left for upvote, or drag a bit further left for downvote.

    Anyway, great work!
