I’m thinking about VSCO’s model, where they don’t show you how popular your own photos are.

Why would anyone want that? Mental health. And not because mine is particularly fucked up, but because it is precisely through knowing how popular your photos are that insecurities bubble up, leading to the rise in anxiety and depression associated with knowing how popular your photos are.

Hence my request. Are there FLOSS networks that hide popularity? Is there a frontend of sorts or an addon or something for PixelFed to hide those? What about on mobile?

You could block those elements with uBlock Origin in browser, desktop or mobile; and if discussing mental health, don’t use any Pixelfed mobile clients then, since mobile apps nake engagement so much easier.

Yes, at least on Android I know there are a few!

Pixeldroid is the most well featured. I haven’t gotten it working on my device, possibly something wrong I did.

Pixelcat is another option, seems quite new.

Yuito Tusky fork with support for Pixelfed, not necessarily for Pixelfed.

I would recommend Pixeldroid to anyone looking for a mobile app. Pixelfed instances work well on mobile browsers though, which is a nice option. You can make new posts on mobile.
