Think of this before you take things at face value, maybe it’s just attractive.
In Figure 1 I really cannot tell by what metric the left tiger is more attractive than the right one. Even for cats I think it’s pretty close. I understand they asked adults to judge the pictures of tigers and cats but still.
I don’t know if the article I posted is the same I read since it’s been some time. But the one I’ve read talked about babies finding “attractive” human females attractive.
In this research they are saying that preference for “attractive” faces in babies extends to pictures of cats and tigers. This preference is not shown when the pictures are shown upside down. So they are concluding that the preference comes from high level image processing rather than something like mate-selection.
