We are archiving Atom and all projects under the Atom organization for an official sunset on December 15, 2022.

It’s a good thing I ditched GitHub and VSCode!

Fuck Microsoft. I loved Atom.

It was on life support for a long time, and it doesn’t make sense to have Atom around considering VS Code is almost exactly the same thing but better and faster. If you really loved Atom there are themes that make VSCode look almost exactly the same.

I actually prefer Atom to VSCode. I’ll probably keep using it even after it’s shelved by Microsoft.

What can it do what vscode can’t do better?

Atom is very lightweight and has lots of plugins. VSCode is packed with features that just clog my workspace.

maybe you can use neovim or spacemacs then? It’s also pretty lightweight and they focus on customizability.

I use vscode but one thing I like about atom is that you can theme it using normal css selectors. Vscode uses ui tokens for theming which is a lot more limited in what it can do.
