A team of researchers from Finland has set up the world's first commercial-scale 'sand battery' that be used to store power generated from renewable sources for months at a time to solve the problem of year-round supply.
This is interesting but it would have been nice to know how the insulation and heat exchanging was set up. (I didn’t bother watching the long video, maybe it’s explained there.)
Seems remarkably inefficient. The article even says it can’t be used for electricity.
Also, pretty sure it’s not the world’s first.
