I would leave more often, but I am still trying to get the hang of this fediverse thing, and I am having a little bit of trouble trying to understand how if someone links a Lemmy.ml post to get that while logged into lemmygrad, That has been my biggest hurdle so far.
Yeah, it’s a little difficult to browse all content from other instances while logged into a different one.
For instance, I just tried to go to ‘Perthchat’ by clicking on @NormieGirl@lemmy.perthchat.org’s profile. It got me there, but I can’t vote or comment, which feels a little unintuitive.
It kind of makes sense. Hosting a Lemmy instance is fairly cheap and easy. The containers are lightweight and obtaining a domain is usually fairly cheap.
Its def nice to see a lot more small-user / single-user instances. It means lemmy is proving easy to self-host, esp in terms of resources.
Ideally activitypub services and other federated services like matrix will become so performant, that the need for servers goes away entirely, and the “server” will just be local apps. Still a long way off from there tho.
Absolutely! Fairly easy from an enthusiast/sys-admin POV.
But I’m looking at YunoHost’s Lemmy-implementation. If they ever get it sorted out so anybody can install Lemmy using a (even for normies) simple step-by-step GUI, no CLI?.. I think the single-user/small instance lemmy count would shoot up.
Maybe, that is how I learned of this site. I try to hit the “All” button though to get more content, but tbh I never looked into how federation worked and what the instances even mean on a technological level. I should probably do that since I work in tech and admitting that makes me feel foolish.

Well, yeah, what do you expect? Might as well have just lemmy otherwise!
We only have 3 admins lol
feddit.de has some activity.
I tried Beehaw, but gave up after seeing that the downvote button is disabled.
I like the sound of that.
Try perthchat, we have downvotes
I’ll give it a try!
I still see some people on midwest.social.
there’s still 2 or 3 of us lemmy.ca users who are occasionally active, haha. I just lurk most of the time.
The lemmy fediverse isn’t as active as it could be, but there’s more servers than I expected after seeing this: https://lemmymap.feddit.de/

More federation is always healty for the fediverse. :D

aren’t most lemmygrad users from genzedong? That might explain why they stay there.

Here i’ll give you a eli5:
email. lemmgrad is gmail, lemmy.ml is yahoo, lemmy.perthchat.org is hotmail
there, now you don’t have to feel foolish :P
I suspect that they just fail to understand federation 😏
You want the tankies to come here instead? Fine by me, I can call them over.
How dare you to insult the glorious hivemind
what? hivemind?
