make notifications easier to read… just say “x and 30 others favourited your toot” instead of 31 seperate notifications…

Single sign-on, so I can interact with other fedi sites with my main account without manually loading them in mastodon

Apps should solve this problem: apps currently let you join more than one instance but they don’t let you choose which account to reply from. This simple feature would probably help a lot, and the app could even select automatically the account if you have an account of the instance you’re replying to .

I think opt-in algorithmic/viral design would be nice. Sometimes I like having a neural network tell me what posts I might be interested in.

A decade ago I was on rss feeds all the way. But over time I followed so many people it became very hard to get through all the content in a day. Having an algo help push stuff tk the top was a value add for me. Yes advertisers distort this stuff which is why it should be opt in and should have extensive levers for the user to control.

Yep, some accounts tweet like 30 times a day, just subscribing to a few accounts can be a full time job.

Twitter does a decent job of filtering out a lot of that noise and showing more viral posts that accounts I follow liked. Of course they also slam in advertising, and the rage-inducing “engagement” posts too.

The way reddit shows ads is not bad. On mastodon it could be decided in the settings: how many ads you allow us to show? One every 20 posts? Every 50? Every 100? That’s nice for those who want to pay for the instance in some way

You can always mute people you don’t want to see too much of them.

True but what if I don’t want to mute them completely, I jist want to lower the torrent of posts?

If the frequency of post is too much then mute but visit their profile once in a while. Like looking a “list”.

Considering I find the format the single worst of the major styles, stop microblogging and do forum style. 🏟

@coldhotman @OptimusPrime Mastodon is the one from available option. We have something like forums, reddit-like platform in Fediverse called Lemmy.

Absolutely, and I think the social news aggregator style is vastly superior to the blogging style. That’s why I stopped using Mastodon (and friendica for that matter) to live in the Lemmyverse.

NRSK.no is a Lemmy instance. 😉

@coldhotman Oh, didn’t notice it 😅 I like both of them, and I think there are different use cases, and fact that both are accesible (partially) in one place is great.

Agreed. And that we both can comment on a third party PeerTube video and interact and so on.

But I really hope the mastodon-lemmy interaction gets better, the last time I filed a bug report regarding federation, both projects said the other one had to fix it and then nothing got done 😂

@coldhotman Unfortunately integration beetween Lemmy and Mastodon will not be ideal, because Mastodon doesn’t support Articles posts, only Notes which are not available in Lemmy (posts without title) and that is the main reason why we can’t create Lemmy posts on Mastodon and can only comment it.

Yes, it’s needlessly incompatible. Mastodon doesn’t fully support groups either last time I checked, If you subscribe to a lemmy community you’ll get posts and comments as a single stream and no way of relating comments to posts. It was a mess a while back, don’t know if that’s sorted out.

I know that the admin of Wolfballs.com is currently working on an alternative lemmy front-end that will incorporate proper mastodon support, so I’m looking forward to see what he comes up with.

Is there a site with an overview of uptime, SSL certificate details of the instances ? Something similar like : https://searx.space/ That would make it more interesting to choose your instance to sign up.

A lot of instances don’t like to be scraped for searchers, and they rightly shouldn’t be. Maybe as an opt-in option, but otherwise no thanks.
