LUNCHEON MEAT
They made a video game about this.
I think there are two issues:
I got through page 1 and this conversation has already gone too far. I don’t know if I’m emotionally ready for page 2, much less all 5.

You’re confusing the “concept of free speech” with America’s Constitutional protection of free speech (the First Amendment).
This is some peak America-brain to suggest that free speech only exists in the USA. I assure you, outside of America’s borders, nobody is referencing the First Amendment when they talk about free speech, and the concept as you so condescendingly claim to be the expert on is not limited to government restriction.
The definition of “dark pattern” has been evolving. Today I think it means “UI design I don’t like”, or at least that’s how everyone’s been using it.
Recently saw someone accuse PayPal of using dark patterns when they clicked the submit payment button and the payment went through (they wanted one more interstitial).
Freedom of speech includes the freedom not to be forced to consume something (including ads). Freedom of speech includes not sending all of my metadata to you and your business partners.
It’s so hard to fight for the Palestinian people when soulless monsters like you show up to represent the cause. It’s becoming harder and harder to figure out who is anti-apartheid, and who wants another Holocaust.
Yeah, but there’s a difference between an article saying something, and something being true. This isn’t exactly an unbiased source.

The Colorado Supreme Court is most certainly not the highest court in the land… I would like to see this reviewed at the federal level, because it appears unconstitutional.
Not quite. Microsoft owes back taxes from 2004 to 2013 totalling $29 billion.
The $688 billion figure is the collective shortfall from 2021.
So really Microsoft owes $29 billion dollars on top of the $688 billion that all the other rich people and corporations owe, but adding those numbers together doesn’t mean anything because these stories are largely unrelated. There is a shortfall every year because of tax evasion that comes out to trillions of dollars collectively if we’re counting back to 2004.
Neither party is in the right. Israel is a violent apartheid state, and Palestine is large ruled by a terrorist organization. Both Israelis and Palestinians have the right to exist, but neither side’s leadership respects each other’s existence.
The victims in all of this are both the Israeli and Palestinian citizens, so taking a side isn’t really a sound option. I am failing to see anyone who aligns as pro-Israel or pro-Palestine make coherent arguments about what happened this week. The only reasonable alignment is to be anti-war, anti-terrorism, and anti-apartheid.
I’ve been on the waiting list for months now, at least there are Mastodon instances with open registration available.
Is the incarceration rate really that high in Australia? I thought it was closer to the global average.
To be fair, ActivityPub is an open standard, so corporate adoption was a guarantee following any amount of success.
As an advocate for ActivityPub, I want to see more entities using it. The fact that Threads and Flipboard will interoperate will likely convince more corporate actors to join the fediverse, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing.
There will always be instances that block out the entire corporate fediverse, and those communities will still thrive alongside instances that do federate with the corporations. People will have freedom of choice without having to exist in a bubble, and I think that’s great.
The strength is in defederation, where communities can decide who they want to play with. I’m not personally worried about big companies like Meta embracing ActivityPub because their bad behavior will have consequences for them, and the community is starting off vigilant and aware. If they play nice, the community might loosen its grip, but if they act exploitive or abusive, they’ll get shut out from most of the community forever.
