World News@lemmy.world•Ukraine said it captured a Russian position using only ground robots and drones, no infantry, for the first timeEnglish
1·2 days agoYes, but human soldiers doing atrocities is nothing new (unfortunately). There’s no obvious reason to think drones will make that particular aspect of warfare worse.

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•When did you realize that all laws are made to benefit the rich and/or oppress the rest of us, and a politician's job is to write the laws and sell them to the voters?English
12·2 days agoSomehow, people seem to find it plenty clear.

3·4 days agoI was agreeing with you, FWIW. They’re not puppets run by some shadowy group, and what they actually do is very public (if you bother to look). My country televises parliament, and publishes all legislation. The US does something similar. It’s also easy to get facetime with representatives, if you’re willing to knock on doors and attend boring meetings.
Over the long run, conditions have improved, in spite of representative democracy being a cluster-fuck in the short term.

Some of these comments seem to be imagining the state of tolerance is the same as in the West proper.

39·4 days agoPossible. It does seem like drones fighting drones should mean less human casualties, which has both a humanitarian side and an escalation risk side.
Then again a lot of people have thought their weapons would make war less deadly, and been very wrong, including the case of WWI-era artillery.

75·4 days agoThen that’s not a problem with the law, but with enforcement.
If there was whatever glorious socialist revolution tomorrow, that law would stay.

21·4 days agoYup. I actually know and work with politicians. It’s a sales job alright; the legislation is pretty secondary regardless of who it benefits. You can see laws that fuck everyone rich or poor being passed sometimes, if they sound good in a speech.

Is that what the point of the meme was? You can read it as being about how much lower the stakes are, too.
This is my backup instance while SDF is down, if that’s what you’re talking about. It has good blocked/blocked by.

World News@lemmy.world•Trump hurt Nato’s credibility more in past weeks than Putin managed in years, says Czech president – Europe liveEnglish
1·8 days agoOh, you’re French yourself. Didn’t mean to make this personal, for what it’s worth.
Only the undemocratic presidential system in France makes her and “Rassemblement National” a danger of getting actual power.
Ditto for the US. Each party gets 50% every election, with the margin swinging predictably based on, like, who’s incumbent and how the economy is. And electoral districts are basically designed to have a set outcome at this point. Trump came to power because he’s popular with the radicals that vote in Republican primaries.
FWIW their system is so much worse than the French one, even if the French one is worse than, like, Norway.
A fish in water doesn’t know it’s in water, right?
Alright.
To answer your question before you go, no, I don’t think you’re trying to convince anyone of anything. Which is the problem; what are you doing, and how can anyone engage with it? I read what you wrote, it’s just not relevant to what’s going on in this thread.
Like what, was I supposed to fly off the handle and say “politics doesn’t effect anything”, or agree and say “yes we’re both very woke, much better than most people”? That would definitely be a waste of time.
Me? I’m pretty heavily involved in IRL politics and have been for years.
I was nice to OP. That’s it.

And letting the US government spy on you helps with that?
In reality, people are built for the stone age and a little out of their depth with 21st century technology. Unless there’s some visual indicator of the spying their normal social instincts don’t kick in.
