  • re campism:

Personally I arrive at opposing NATO because I’m opposed to all wars but the class war as it were. It’s not out of a sense of wanting to ‘shield’ Russia.

I live in the US and thus I oppose its use of military force around the world, if I was back in Russia I would still be opposed to the war on general principle, with all of the associated political risks.

I’m not sure I see what the ‘trap’ is in your line of thought, but if you’re insisting that lack of support for NATO as a citizen in a NATO country is somehow a position that people are tricked into, I think you may be misunderstanding the situation.

    re hexbear:

but, well… we know it’s already way past critical support.

I’m not sure they’re as in the tank for Putin as you say, I’m subbed to most if not all of their comms and I will routinely come across things like this it’s pretty clearly shitting on the CPRF for going along with SMO, the kind-vladimir-ilyich emoji is imparting ‘lenin would have shot everyone in this room’, I have to imagine that includes Putin. One of their news mods is said ‘If you’re a communist party and Putin is praising you, you’re not a communist party.’

The ghost of that second international will still haunt us for a long time…

on the anarchist end it’s the manifesto of the sixteen vs the anti-war manifesto, the latter is a banger I recommend it:

The misfortune of the peoples, who were nevertheless all deeply committed to peace, is that they trusted in the State with its scheming diplomats, in democracy and in the political parties (even the opposition parties, like the parliamentary socialists) to avert war. That trust was deliberately abused and continues to be abused when those in government, with the help of their whole press, persuade their respective peoples that this war is a war of liberation.

  • I know you are a leftist, and at one point I thought I was too, but compared to the likes of hexbear and lemmygrad.ml and even lemmy.ml we are flaming right-wingers, I believe? if you [checks notes] “have a bank account”, then you aren’t leftist enough for them).

I promise you I have a bank account. I’m an anarchist and I prefer .ml because I don’t care about opposing “campism”. (not a real thing)

I’m more on the intersection of anarchism and Luxemburgism; I share a lot of her criticism of the USSR and I find Marxists often end up agreeing with me. At the end of the day I oppose inter-capitalist wars and support revolutionary organizing against the existing system. That alone is enough to put me on the bad side of most of lib Lemmy.

A divide like this happened among anarchists in the first world war too.

  • he did say communist governments are authoritarian, in them the capitalist class would be getting oppressed by the state in service of the working class. this is why it’s called the dictatorship of the proletariat - the proletariat should still be getting their interests as a class represented in this arrangement, while bourgious have no special status or access due to their capital.

All governments are authoritarian, all states are instruments of class opression. What matters is which class is being oppressed, by which.

are there any examples of libertarian states?

  • What bothers me is that there’s real problems in the world stemming from our political economy and the fixation on human growth is missing a far more consequential component- capitalist mode of production.

That particular political economy is what requires that the market is ever-increasing in size or else it collapses. From my position it’s disappointing that someone looking for answers like this person was instead spiraled off into misanthropy rather than finding their way to more effective criticisms for that current political economy which is killing us.

These aren’t new revelations, they have been getting expressed for over a hundred years at this point. Young people landing on antinatalism to me looks like it’s a consequence of many decades of red scare and purges of anything critical of capitalism in education and culture, leaving people looking for answers anywhere they can find them.
