  • The way the stories are depicted they always dehumanize the invaded populations; after soldiers kill freedom fighters (who are always depicted as the bad guys), they also show civilians who get caught up and then the marine has a little breakdown over it, or has to hide his pain, or even that the civilians may have been trying to protect the fighter because he was family to them, and basically the story is told in a way to make you want to make excuses for the soldier. Meanwhile real soldiers are more like Platner who go back for multiple tours and talk about how they like infantry combat, or the people who brutalize the population at a level just beneath getting them legal consequences.

I would say we need a new red dawn movie from the perspective of the Soviet (DPRK in the modern one) troops to get the message across, something that probably rips off a famous war movie that most have seen, to really hammer home how ridiculous modern war movies are but truthfully? I do genuinely think too many people are far too obtuse to understand; also every now and then a lib cracks and admits he believe our troops are good people while Russian troops are bad people.

Perhaps what we also really need are movies from the perspective of the freedom fighters, but forget depicting them in a sympathetic light; depict them like Rambo, kicking butt and taking dogtags/names, and the troops in a similar depiction as the Persians in 300.

I remember having an argument about the little mermaid movie years ago; the guy was complaining that a black lady was cast and I had to ask: “what do you care? You’re not gonna watch it”; he looked stunned for a second and then said “yeah but still…”, to which I had to reiterate “WHAT DO YOU CARE? YOU’RE NOT GONNA WATCH IT!”

Like why are grown men complaining about it at all?! We’re not the target demographic!

  • The Germans are perhaps still motivated by guilt over the Holocaust

Honestly I’m not entirely convinced the Germans ARE motivated by guilt; it seems to me more that they’re not happy with the image they created among their (perceived) peers and are now trying to create a new image to be seen by. They want TO BE SEEN as having overcome their past and become better for it, but the idea that they’ve fundamentally changed is a joke. They committed atrocities in Namibia for example but have never paid reparations to the people there, and of course why should they? Other European countries rag on Germany for the holocaust, none of them give a damn about the atrocities committed against the Herero people.

They bend over backwards for Israel because they don’t want to be mocked as Nazis; they want to continue viewing themselves in the same lofty position they see other Western European countries in.

  • I’m currently working in the Middle East and speaking for myself, I’m less worried about dying brutally to a bombing campaign by China than I am by my own government, so that certainly plays a role.

I think if the government put some effort towards PR by making some superficial gestures such as not invading other countries or overthrowing their governments it would certainly help improve our image abroad and I could stop pretending I’m British.

What we really need is to convince the global South that NOT being bombed by China is actually an evil orientalist plot to subvert our kindly brutality.

It’s getting very exhausting telling the locals “Oy yoo lot ain’t neva seen ‘ow ‘orrible dem Choinese ca’ be! Would yoo be preferrin’ youse country, yeah? Would youse be preferrin’ yoo be in one a dem ‘orrifying debt traps, or would youse be preferrin’, yeah? A noice Gaaza remodelin’, yeah? Oi think tha choice is an easy one, yeah? Dem Choinese don’ seem so noice now, do they?”

Speaking like a Brit makes my mouth hurt; no wonder they’re so miserable.

It’s funny to imagine our descendants in whatever America becomes defending the empire by saying it wasn’t America’s fault it collapsed, it was Israel’s; hopefully though one of the things they admit is it’s also because of culture war idiocy and other arbitrary, fabricated social divisions; EDIT: Also the empire’s insistence on capitalism and wasting the talents contained in around 350 million people; China capitalizing (haaaaa, see what I did there?) on their population with excellent access to really good education and health services has turned their one billion people into its most powerful asset, meanwhile in America humans are also an asset, but in the form of slavery (wage slavery and actual slavery).

  • Now admittedly I’m just a gamer, not a GamerTM, but I personally don’t have any interest in the different designs and such; do they look cool sometimes? Sure, but I spend very little time looking at my PC so it’s entertaining for the first two hours, and then it’s just a chassis. Also I really don’t like those annoying LED lights and have to switch them off; I sleep in the same room as my PC and I don’t want the lights on at night (I never switch off my PC cause like seriously, who does that?)

Would it serve a streamer more than it would the average person however? Most likely; fans will enjoy glancing at it from time to time, and it’ll help add some interest to the average person just flicking through different gamer streams.

  • Politicians when they were asked much earlier (last year?) about unprovoked Israeli attacks on Iran:

“Does Israel have a right to defend itself?”

    “Yes”

“Does every country have a right to defend themselves?”

    “Yes”

“Does Iran have a right to defend itself?”

“This is a very complex issue, and Israel has a right to defend itself”

If I were from the global South I’d pretend Western countries don’t even exist and just work with China, which I’m glad to say it looks like Africa is doing just that. Africa has had some awesome leaders honestly (who France and America are desperately trying to overthrow).
