Not in FL, but in another GOP state that I’m sure will join the bandwagon eventually. I knew there was a reason I’ve been hoarding “data”.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•I don't have a purpose in life and feel like a robot. This cannot be good for my mental health, but I don't know how or what to change. How do I change?English
7·1 year agoYou might try meetups around a hobby that you’re into (or interested in learning about). I always suggest boardgaming because it’s a relatively casual atmosphere for meeting people around an activity. There’s no pressure to carry on a conversation and you’re not dating these people, just meeting strangers for gaming. You usually still have to talk about the game and rules as you’re playing, so it gives you something in common to talk about. The rules provide structure if you’re socially awkward, so it’s maybe not as chaotic as just going to a party with a bunch of people there and trying to carry on random conversations. Meetup.com is what I’ve tried before and that worked well for me in my area (results may vary).
That’s just something to get you out of the house, pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone seems like the first thing you’d want to try doing. Getting out and meeting new people can help sometimes. It sounds like you’re in a rut, just sort of bored with everything, or at least wanting something more. Otherwise, maybe pick some sort of hobby or interest maybe you’ve though about before and just throw yourself into it if you have the time and/or money. Learn something new. Start an exercise routine or just start going on extended (30min) walks around your neighborhood. Start volunteering somewhere. Write in a journal. Just do something that’s not part of your typical routine that sparks some new mental connections for you.
And even though you don’t feel depressed, what you’re describing still could be a sign of depression, so reaching out for support is always an option that you shouldn’t feel ashamed of or anything.
Just throwing some stuff out there as ideas, but I hope everything works out well for you.
On one level, I sympathize with companies like Nintendo, I don’t want to, BUT companies are supposed to make efforts to protect their IP or they run the risk of losing those exclusive protections when it matters later on (abandonment). So if they want to continue their IP rights, they’re supposed to defend it against anything that comes along. I still don’t like it, but I kind of understand why they have to do it.
Granted, I think they could come up with some sort of licensing terms that would made it easy for solo developers to still develop small-time projects to encourage people to create these one-off labors of love, similar to what alot of TTRPG developers do, but for whatever reason, they go the hardball approach, which just creates bad feelings in the community.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Does anyone else think the NYPD photos of the UHC CEO shooting suspect don’t match?English
1·1 year agoUnless he put the clothes in the backpack and put all of that into the other backpack, Backpackception! It sounds really silly though, like he purposely changed his clothes ever so slightly, just enough that a few people would call it out, instead of changing into a completely different outfit, which would’ve been more effective IMO. It’s just alot of work for little benefit, people come up with the weirdest theories.

1·1 year agoI keep seeing the backpack as not matching, I don’t get how these are considered the same person, unless is going to be the next blue-black white-gold thing.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do Republicans bring up Kamala's "lies"/shortcomings as a way to claim Trump is better?English
0·2 years agoThat’s what they’ve done for like 8 years now, it’s the foundation of Whataboutism. No matter what you pin on Trump, they’ll jump on some other real or imagined wrong, no matter what it has to do with the conversation, and use that as justification for anything that Trump has done or will do. It’s just a way to sidestep or confuse the issue.
- “Trump is literally talking about becoming a fascist dictator.”
- “Yeah, but in the 12th century, Genghis Khan killed like 20–40 million people, that’s what we’re facing from Chi-na, they’re going to slaughter everyone if we don’t do anything about them and their takeover of China-store Kamala, she’s bought and paid for!”
- “WTF is wrong with you?”
Occasionally I block users that are extremely bad for one reason or another. Honestly though, I have to block far more communities than users, and it’s mostly because of foreign languages. I have nothing against these communities, but if I can’t read any of their posts, they’re just noise. I’ve tried tinkering around with language settings, but for whatever reason I still seem to see at least one new one a week, and so I block it to clean up my feed. It just seems like something that should be easy, I’m a dumb American who only wants to see English communities, how hard is it to filter by language, or is this just a problem with my mobile client (Voyager)?

Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•Straight men, what's the weirdest thing you've been told you can't do because it's gay?English
1·2 years agoSucking my best friend’s dick. I’m sorry, but if my friend is having a bad day, giving him a bro-job is not gay.
I just don’t dream… anything. I remember having dreams as a kid, and I remember what it felt like waking up, knowing I’d had a dream, but forgetting it. But anymore, I just don’t have any dreams anymore.

1·2 years agoI grew up in a home where we just never thought about wearing, or not wearing, shoes in the house. Like, we obviously didn’t track mud all over the place if our shoes were that dirty, but if we were wearing our shoes inside, nobody said anything or cared, it was just whatever. Married a Kenyan who put her foot down and was like, “Are you crazy?” It’s apparently a big thing elsewhere in the world. In Kenya alot of roads aren’t paved, things get dusty, and it’s just common sense that you don’t walk all over the house with dirty shoes, so I get it from that perspective.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Why do people wear shoes inside the house?English
1·2 years agoGrowing up, we never thought twice about it, we just wore our shoes inside (or didn’t) and it was whatever, nobody ever said anything. I grew up in northeast US and the only time we really wouldn’t wear shoes in the house would be when it snowed or if we had mud on our shoes, otherwise it helped keep your feet warm. It wasn’t until I met my wife that she was like, “What the fuck?” She grew up in Kenya where it was mandatory to not wear shoes. It’s so dusty out there most of the time that the house would be a mess if you did wear your shoes inside, so it was just an automatic thing to take them off.

5·2 years agoI’m just confused at what the continuity is now. So with Aquaman 2, that’s the last of the old stuff and now it’s being rebooted with Gunn as DC’s Kevin Feige-esque person in charge? I feel like he’s been in that roll for over a year now, yet everything that’s been released is all part of the old continuity and was going to get phased out, so what was the point of all that then? Releasing stuff for a universe that’s getting scrapped (though will likely show up in 5-10 years in some crisis on infinity earths story or something).

Memes@lemmy.ml•Me, checking later than I should with my siblingsEnglish
32·2 years agoI only buy stuff for my sibling’s kids now. Buying christmas gifts for other adults is just kind of pointless unless you specifically find some sort of unique thing that you know they’ll like/need and wouldn’t have found on their own.

Epic and GoG I’ve not bought a single thing from either of them, that’s all free shit. For Steam, most of that is stuff that’s been accumulated from Humble Bundles and just from having an account for ~20 years now. If I were to just quit my job and game full-time for the rest of my life, there’s probably more games to play in my collection than I have years left to live.
