I upgraded from Nvidia 1060 to Radeon 5700xt second hand when DOOM Eternal came out in 2020. I haven’t dare to look at the GPU prices new or second hand since. DOOM the dark ages can wait at the end of my backlog. At the pace I’m going right now, I’ll revisit it when I reach retirement age.

• however, it could very well be sending data back to the mothership. They are legally obligated to get your explicit consent as per GDPR law
• the software is completely closed-source and there is no chance we get any information about it. It’s all private intellectual property. Actually, the Car manufacturers (in this case Renault) almost always requires all suppliers of such equipment to ensure there is ZERO Open-source code in the delivered product. Suppliers are audited to prove they have not reused any Open-source code, piece of code or libraries.

Exactly, it’s not only about fighting Google, it’s also about setting a better, more open standard for the rest of the market.

Recently my bank has rolled out a new mobile app now relying on Google wallet for NFC payment. I was able to use NFC payment on GrapheneOS on the old app, I can’t on the new one. The online banking stuff still works (for now) but no more mobile payment for me. I didn’t sign a fucking contract with Google, why would I hand over my payment data to them !

They understand well at Valve they must foster a community around their devices in order to give them a long commercial life-time. They can’t afford/don’t want to design new controllers to release every 2~3 years. Also, many will be willing to pay more for a device that is part of an ecosystem, having a community and 3rd parties creating this ecosystem for no extra cost it a complete win for them, it’s also a win for consumers twho get to do what they want with their purchase.

We should ban these cars entirely for safety and pollution reasons. This would impact a grand total for 8000 people that were seriously considering buying this type of vehicle in the entirety of the EU. This wouldn’t impact the US car business in the slightest, true, still good to do it though.

What we should do in retaliation:

1. Remove all of the copyright protection laws that were impose to us by the US in the 2000’s
2. Tariff on US big tech, reinvest the money to boost European tech sector in the direction of digital sovereignty based on FOSS.
