What app do you use or recommend for sharing you location with family and friends? Google Maps can do this, but I'm looking for a non-Google option. Something in the OpenStreetMaps space would be the best. Telegram can also do it, but Telegram's feature is more optimized for short-term sharing, not continuous sharing.
I was missing auto export of contacts in cvs file in many FOSS contact manager apps. I came across this app, using it with syncthing is working like charm.
Previously, I was using https://www.f-droid.org/packages/org.decsync.cc/
issue was that I could not restore backups.
Moreover, is there something similar for SMS messages?
I'd like to block both, phone calls and SMS messages, when
the phone numbers try to impersonate those from real phone number owners.
In my country it's common to get phone calls, and SMS messages, from phone numbers corresponding to real organizations, such as banks and government agencies (particularly those associated to taxes, legal, and so on).
So I´d like something that indicates me the impersonating phone number is no the real one, for both phone calls and SMSs, so I can block those, and also I can block some coming from real orgs I'm not interested in answering, like banks offering vredit cads or health insurance, or things like that.
But I'm looking for something hopefully not sharing information from me, not even statistics. So not sure there's one app or 2 apps on Android, which are FOSS, and hpefully under F-DROID, or with custom F_DROID repos, which is what I prefer...
Thanks !
Highly suggest looking at this if you are interested in using Gemini (protocol) on Android. Very polished, seemingly feature complete. With Ariane gone, might be your best bet - Deedum is good but this has it beat.
Hi. I use Joplin and quillnote to make notes on the go. But many times I need then as PDF. On the computer there in no problem but none of these allow me to export as PDF on my phone.
Is there some app that allows me to do this?
I feel like someone tooling with a secure messaging app makes it less...reliable that its secure, despite yanking google play parts out of the code. Thoughts?
Hi. Im very happy right now with smart launcher. But I would like something fully open source.
I want something minimal, but that allows me to have desktop pictures, because I make my own wallpapers.
Also it would be good to create folders or apo categories.
Thank you.
Hi ! It's been a while since I don't use the Signal app, and instead I use Molly from the Mully-FOSS custom f-droid repo:
https://molly.im/fdroid
https://molly.im/fdroid/foss/fdroid/repo
So I can use molly without binary blobs... However I was wondering if there were any efforts to include molly into the f-droid official repos... I understand the motto of having custom repos, but the more custom repos added, the slower the repos updates... And molly doesn't get updated everyday either, :)
Thanks !
Recently I saw that F-Droid got version 1.13 and I'm wondering why F-Droid doesn't suggest to update the application if I have version 1.12.1. Is 1.13 unstable or is it pre-release?

> I've been trying this out for a week, and really like it so far. Loads a bit faster than firefox, and has good ad blocking out of the box.
So i was checking my storage usage and i realized that f-droid was using 5 GB, i uninstalled it and reinstalled it and now it has a normal size, but why does this happen?
Setter is a meta-search tool, reverse image search tool and translator tool all packed in the same package.
Privacy focus
Setter use Android system webview a lot and it make sure Geolocation API is turned off and MetricsOptOut turned on to prevent leaking browsing data to Google.
When doing reverse image search, Setter will resize the image to a low resolution and strip off EXIF data before upload it to the search engines. Setter will also rename the file to a generic name.

Hikar is an augmented reality app for Android (4.2+) which overlays footpaths from OpenStreetMap on the device's camera feed and shows virtual signposts.
Its aim is to help navigation for walkers/hikers (hence the name) and other outdoor users.
I'm kind of new to android. F-droid is kind of hard to navigate. some apps doesn't load their thumbnails and some doesn't even have them at all. It's hard to decide which ones are good other than how recent It's updated.
What I need atm:
- Music player
- Writing / Note taking
- Diary app
- VPN?
- Maps
- Messenger app
- Social media / Fediverse frontends (if it exists)
- Peertube client (to upload and manage videos)
- Reminders / To do list app
You can recommend me any android apps that might be useful.
The K-9 Mail application was not updated for a long time in the Google Play Store (when I last checked), so I was surprised to find an updated version in FDroid after I made the switch from Google to non Google services.
The newer K-9 Mail app has a slick interface and handles my not-that-considerable email load well. It's the best out of all the FOSS Android email clients I've tried so far.
Since months I have a difficult time to install the app easily. Its name keeps changing in the F-Droid repository (I think I've installed the French kbd app just to get the main kdb app downloaded), and it looks like easiest is to download the apk from the F-Droid website. Today this surprise with another name change which starts to look like an Eastern egg (Searched on F-Droid site and Fossdroid.com sites and could not find an Israel 64 BDay theme). On another phone, after updating the repo info, the name changed from Norwegian to French, but then the description claims it is the NL kbd app.
Here an example for Catalan kbd app https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.anysoftkeyboard.languagepack.catalan/ suggesting to download the main kbd app manually. If my memory serves me well a few years ago installation was clear and straightforward. So what is going on ?

> I noticed that Scid on the go is a much older version on F-Droid, from 2013, than the source code one, which is from Mar 14, 2020. https://github.com/gkalab/scidonthego Is there a reason for it ? Does it not compile for F-Droid ? I know I best ask in the F-Droid forum but maybe someone here knows the answer.
FingerList displays the finger results of your friends and their servers in a list. Just add their finger addresses and see their status. Add a server address and see who's online.
Finger is an old protocol which can display information about users and their current plans and projects, as well as contact information. This fully depends on the setup of the specific finger server. It is also used for microblogging.
There's a lot of proprietary apps to make unlimited clones of any app you want, but is there a FOSS method?
I know Shelter and Insular let you make one work profile clone, that's all though.
Do you put them in a notes app somewhere, in a browser, or something else? I'm hoping there's an app where you can put them in privately, organize them by tags, and search with those.
F-Droid is an installable catalogue of FOSS (Free and Open Source Software) applications for the Android platform. The client makes it easy to browse, install, and keep track of updates on your device.
