Started the next route in Fire Emblem: Three Houses, which is the second / hidden route in Black Eagle route. Already have a separate save at the fork point, so continued with that.
It’s interesting to see the different point of view of things, and now that I have some experience with game mechanics I am trying out different classes for some of the characters. The fork point is far enough in the game that drastic changes won’t be possible, but still, some changes can be done, and it’s fun exploring that.
Started Mutant Mudd Collection on Switch, for the times when Age of Calamity becomes too repetitive and want to play something else.
It’s a 2D platformer which was originally released on 3DS and the game is tough! You have to complete each level at least twice, one is the main path, and one is the alternate, more difficult path. I am having trouble enough with normal path so not sure if I’ll be able to handle the difficult paths.
The difficultly is still within my playable range, even though I die a ton at certain places. Let’s see how long I stick with it.
Played a bit of Hyrle Warriors: Age of Calamity and am having trouble with some of the Timed missions, may have to level up some more, will try them again later.
Didn’t play much Cozy Grove this week, will get back to slowly chipping away at it from next week.
I haven’t started anything on PlayStation cause I wanted to start Dark Souls Remastered and was waiting for a sale (as per dekudeals it regularly does go to sale).
And as it happens, it just went on sale! So just bought the game and have downloaded it. Will probably be playing it over the weekend. Time to see if I can finish it or it will be another game that I’ll be dropping halfway through 😀
What about all of you? What have you been playing and/or plan to play?
Still playing Xenoblade X. Finally reached level 50 to upgrade to stronger Skells, the old ones started to feel weak. And at this point I can definitely confirm that I appreciate the game more than I did on the Wii U. I passed the 100 hour mark, which is usually where I start getting tired of a game, but it hasn’t happened yet. On the Wii U, I had a much worse time because I front-loaded all the exploration as soon as I got the flight module. Patience is the way to go!
I’m adequately deep into Wild Arms 2 now and I have to say that this game is surprisingly easy. It already has a very low encounter rate for this era of RPGs and you can ‘cancel’ them if you’re a higher level than the enemy. I do that 95% of the time and I’m still strong enough to one-shot enemies with magic they resist. Even the bosses barely pose a challenge, especially when they have an elemental weakness. I wonder if that’s ever going to change?
I also picked up Pokemon Lazarus after some idiots gave it unintended publicity and it’s pretty good. I like how it’s a Gen3 romhack using Gen2 visuals, that’s very different from anything I’ve seen before! But I’m also learning that I can’t play normal Pokemon games the intended way anymore. If I don’t nuzlocke them, I have to pre-select a team of six and get them as soon as possible, and with the built-in cheat codes I was at least able to do that. I tried to play the vanilla way until the second gym, but I just can’t do patchwork teams anymore. And as an Infinite Fusion player, not having access to over 200.000 Pokemon just doesn’t feel right anymore. I’ve been spoiled, I can’t help it!
Kirby Air Riders! It’s very fun.
And then also trying to finish Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment
Cool! I don’t think it’s for me, but I have seem many people who are very excited for it.
Dragon Quest III HD-2D remake, pretty early on but I have a Gadabout that I’m looking to make a Sage. Glad it got some performance improvements for the Switch 2.
Nice. Have you played the original?
I haven’t! This is my first foray into Dragon Quest. But I’ve played Yakuza: Like A Dragon though and that’s definitely canon soooooooo…
lol, close enough.
Playing Super Robot Taisen Y!
Same update as last week, finished a few more missions but still in Chapter 6.
Playing Nine Sols!
Reached the final boss… and it’s kicking my ass. 😄 Really cool battle though, love the way they use some of the same moves your main character have.
Minor final boss spoilers
Which makes a lot of sense, you’re dueling against the one who taught you to fight.
I want to try to beat it without lowering difficulty, but I need time to sit down and have a good and long “practice session” to learn its patterns and could not do it during the week. But might be able to take that time tomorrow.
Playing Super Mario Galaxy 2!
I had finished the first game way back on the Wii, but had never played the second one properly. And what a great game, stages are very creative and unique, music is great, and despite its age still plays quite well.
One thing to notice is that these games originally made use of the pointer functionality on the Wii, which had to be adapted in the Switch port to use either use gyro controls or touchscreen. The former is a decent approximation and works well when playing docked, but both options felt somewhat clunky when playing handheld.
This game can be pretty damn hard at times, those optional “Prankster Comet” got me a few game overs already. But I’m having a blast with it, and just reached the World 3 castle.
Glad to see they still hold up well. Plan to play both Galaxy and Galaxy 2 soon. Maybe after Metroid Prime 4
I played Cozy Grove a little bit, and I found it unintuitive. I always got lost trying to figure out what to do next.
I agree. I’m a sucker for a cozy game, and the art was adorable; but it requires a patience I do not possess.
Yeah, it’s a slow game, you play 10-15 each day for couple of months to complete the game.
Not a game you can rush through.
When you hover over the quest item, it tells you where to find the item, “near folding char”, “near crow’s nest” etc.
The gameplay loop is simple. Talk to spirit, find them what they want, get spirit wood, feed that to your campfire. It will tell you when there are no more tasks for today. Some of the quests can’t be completed on the same day, this is also mentioned for those quests as a hint, when you hover over it.
It can feel a bit confusing, but it’s pretty simple once you get used to it.
This week I’ve been playing a game called Peaceful Days, it’s an indie game on steam kind of resembling harvest moon, and Stardew Valley. I gave it a second shot because the dev said he’s reworked it, but it’s still plenty convoluted. The puzzles are obscure and unintuitive, so you have to live on the forums. I think I’ve officially given up on it today.
Rune factory 5 was fun, (if I remember right) and I’m currently on the store page wondering if I should spend ~$35 to get RF Guardians of Azuma. (Suggestions welcomed)
Last week I was playing winter burrows. A game that really didn’t deserve the controversy. It’s a darkly cute survival game about a mouse who moves back to his first home from the city after their parents pass. You have to collect food, materials, and stay warm through your traveling. It’s kind of like Don’t starve; but cuter and not as hard. I can’t recommend it enough, it runs like a dream. It’s a bit realistic, so don’t expect fairytale mice - you will have to bury some bodies you find in the cold.
I have heard good things about Guardians of Azuma, so my vote is to give it a try. I am a VERY patient gamer though (I am currently somewhere in 2018 in my gaming, though I do play some older and newer games as well) and haven’t even played Rune Factory 5 yet, so it’s all from the reviews I have seen.
Winter Burrows’ art is pretty cool. Added it to my wishlist right away when they announced it, I think it was in Xbox showcase. I am not big fan of survival games, so it’s good to see that it’s not that hard.
I’m still playing Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. I’ve been doing a lot of the side missions and it’s really fun to play with different characters and their specific weapons and abilities. I also played some Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity. At some point I considered 100%ing it, but after playing the new one on Switch 2, I don’t think that’ll happen 😅
I also got the Analogue 3D delivered this week, and I’ve been going through my Nintendo 64 games. I have my original cartridges from back in the day, and after I pre-ordered it (it’s been 84 years…) I got some more games off eBay. It’s amazing! I was holding off on seeing any reviews and the main negative stuff I’ve seen is very specific stuff about the image (which my basic brain doesn’t care about) and lack of compatibility with flash carts. Also some controllers like the official Nintendo Online 64 (Nintendo 64 Online?) don’t work yet. I have my original controllers and I don’t own a flashcart, but I’m sure these things can be fixed in a future firmware update.
My original save file for Super Mario 64 is only 6 stars away from 120. So that might be a weekend project!
