The second one I couldn’t find on my searches, it was a PS1 game (I think) in which you constructed your Mecha for battle royale rounds, and you could buy parts or change chassis. I remember an arena on a sort of battleship or structure in the sea, but I was unable to retrieve the name of this game.

second game might be Armored Core?
For the first it wasn’t hogs of war was it? Never played it but do remember it being in a few mags.
It was definitely this one ! I remember playing it at a friend’s house and having a blast
