It must be said it’s not purely done out of concern for the planet, there’s lots of strategic thinking about it regarding energy independence given that China imports a lot of oil.
China is playing all sides. They’re investing in renewables because it’s the way forward. They’re building coal plants because it gives them on-demand power today. It’s using it’s oil reserves because it keeps oil prices down during the SoH fiasco, and it gives them a lot of international power because they could reverse that decision overnight.
