Not well. Got woken up at five in the morning and instead of going back to sleep or doing something fun or doing something productive I’m just laying in bed using social media to avoid thinking about the rest of my day because of crippling anxiety.

Not so great. Online dating has left me feeling frustrated.

I have no rizz and women give off frigid vibes around me, so online dating is my only recourse. But it’s made me feel unattractive and questioning why I even bother. Don’t know how much more I can take of swiping through apps day-after-day and getting zero matches. Oh, and when I do match with someone, she’s either incredibly ignorant and ghosts me after one or two messages, is a blatant scammer using stolen profile pics, or lives on a completely different continent and is either on the prowl for a green card or trying to swindle people into giving them money thinking they’re gonna come to their country.

Is it too much to want to date somebody genuine and not be swindled by a cryptocurrency scammer or somebody begging me for money to fund their passport application, which to me is already a massive red flag because I understand how my country’s immigration system works and know that you can’t just buy a passport and travel to a country to live there?

Today I matched with a lady on Coffee Meets Bagel who supposedly lives in my city. I saw a few red flags, like her forgetting things we talked about on the app, and her English language skills suddenly improving from somewhat inaccurate but conversation English to perfect fluency when we took the convo to Whatsapp, so I was cautious about sharing any personal details. I even try to reverse image search the pic of her she sent me. Tineye blows and finds nothing and Google actually now restricts results if the photo is of a person, so of course nothing comes up. Lo and behold, she starts messaging about short term options trading and how she made tonnes of money from trading Bitcoin and Ethereum and I’m like… 🙄

Look, I get it. Nobody owes me love or sex. But it’s baffling how little of a fuck every online dating business gives about policing and safeguarding their own platforms. Scammers and fake users are rife on every dating app, whether it’s Okcupid, POF, Tinder, Bumble, CMB. Even Facebook Dating has a lot of issues with frauds.

I miss the days when online dating was done on a desktop computer and not a smartphone app. It was much easier to weed out fake profiles in those days because you could just right-click a profile pic and do a Tineye or Google reverse image search. A lot of photos are blatantly stolen from models on Instagram, X or Weibo and it’s like every developer is now trying to make it much harder to reverse-search an image.
