  • With such a one dimensional “USA is as bad as Russia” worldview you are probably a bot. I am responding for the sake of any human reading this thread.

The USA has done bad shit for sure, but it did things from time to time that are not easy to interpret as motivated by empire building. For example the intervention to the Yugoslav civil war to stop more genocide to take place. One can argue this was a show of power too, but they got no direct imperial benefit from it, so I believe the intent was more civilized than not. I definitely would have preferred the USA pushing back Russia to behind their borders from Ukraine instead of the 4 years of suffering. Putin would have sucked it up.

On the note of “civilization being nationalistic” you are getting it totally wrong. You are mistaking it for culture. Civilization is a behavior, people and organisations can behave civil almost anywhere in the world. Culture is a collection of encouraged and discouraged behaviors, civil behavior being one of them. Some cultures support civilized behavior, others don’t. Russian culture does not. USA has this cultural split, one side of which supports civilization the other doesn’t.

  • Making money hasn’t been the goal for some time. Fascists have realized that the planet won’t be able to sustain more than ~1billion people, very soon. They are hogging resources, land, water, etc through datacenters and other means to become the judge of who lives and who dies. And they will decide based on “eugenical” (aka racist, ableist, other-ist) factors for the plebs, and of course every CEO and investor wants to be on the panel instead of being judged by the panel. That’s why the seemingly panicky decisions.

They are right about the planet.

It’s on us to get to 1billion through more peaceful, controlled, multi-generational ways for the common people, and starting by punishing fascist behavior with the necessary consequences.

  • Sustainability, decent QOL, high population. Pick two. I pick the first two. Studies usually pick the first and the last. Arguable what “decent” is, but definitely more than “you’re not starving to death and you have some kind of roof above your head”. Or they pick the last 2, and pretend that we can science our way into prosperity. Current agricultural methods are not long term sustainable, regardless if profit motivated or not. Before fertilizers, yields were much lower. But sustainable. But fertilizers and industrial agriculture screw up the soil long term. Also fertilizers need to be produced, often from non-renewing sources. Etc.

I have no comment on Frontex. They are probably a too late attempt to fix something that should have been fixed 50+ years ago.
