Infinite growth is inherently incompatible with life. It does not work. The biosphere is under immense pressure already. Humanity extinct 4 species every day and has killed off 90% of wild animals in the last 100 years. Nature is the greatest repository of knowledge that we have. It is invaluable to our science, though we treat it as expendable. It’s like burning all libraries. We are simply using too much land in an effort to support a shitty economical model that is based on population growth, forever. This is the kind of problem that humanity has proven to be ineffectual at solving. Long term and noone will take action unless it blows up in their faces, personally, right now. Let the next generation deal with it. That is what they said in the 50s and that is what they will say in 10 years too. The damage done to the biosphere is practically permanent. Once an animal or plant is extinct, it is gone. Once enough of them is gone, the planet no longer supports complex life.

With no water and electricity for a couple days, that seem like a low number to me.

What I hate is the expectation that I am to be on standby for whoever calls me. All the time. Fuck that. Send a letter. Show some respect and have some patience. Communication with me is not a right. I’ll not respond when I think its not important. And if you call me allot, it’s never important. I do however get the heart attack feeling every time you do call.

I suspect it’s a case of “We always did it this way, so it’s the superior way”.

Paint it, have it appraised for many moneys, hang it there and watch the neighbour somehow ruin it. Claim damages for many money.

That is no different than someone just hosting their own webserver for the same purpose. They would find themselves in jail pretty quickly. If they do federate; they would be announcing their own existence. That would not be in their interest if they wanna fly under the radar.

Regarding names, I don’t really know. Maybe instances can have blacklists of allowed names, if they care about it. Perhaps they leave the responsibility of blocking users you don’t like, to you.
