Today’s game is some more Project Zomboid. Cable’s hand had to come off today. His right hand to be more specific. He got bitten and we had to rush for a emergency procedure. Jerry sawed it off and we had our friend on stand by. Cable just barely pulled through. I prepared everything in advance. Bandages, anti septic, the saw, and a warmed up stove. I sawed the arm off, bandaged it, and then we were going to use the stove, but Cable would have to do it himself and he was too shakey. So we let it do it’s thing naturally.

Jerry knew how to make a prosthetic so we had to rush him into a car and go to pick up the supplies. I gave Cable a hatchet so he could defend himself and wouldn’t be defenseless (he only had a crowbar) and we went to a nearby factory.

We found everything we were missing, but while searching for he last Steel Pipe i accidentally set off an alarm. Of course then was when my network decided to crash and Cable and our Friend got booted. I got back into the main building safely but they still need to escape. I’m going to clear the area ahead of time for them to hopefully help.

Speaking of Jerry, his mustache grew into a beard. I like to imagine it’s like the opposite of Murder Jacket Rick. He’s actually more Sane with the beard. Maybe something like Kratos’s character arc?
I found a corpse that looked something suspiciously like jerry with the mustache. In a TV show this could be a metaphor.

Before cable’s hand had to go, Jerry had his own little adventure too. He walked too the other side of town, broke into the fancy gated community and camped out in their home. That’s where he spent the night until he had to rush back to cable, kind of bringing us full circle.
I tried to get into this game but after seeing how deep the mechanics go I gave up. It’s not like Rimworld where you can enjoy the game without grasping all the mechanics, zomboid requires you to invest in it to actually enjoy it, which I’ve lacked the time for.
Fair enough, even with how much I play I still have to learn new things. I get the time commitment being an issue
I think its an amazing game, I wish I had the time
The Only Cure! What an immersive way to handle the dreaded “bitten” notice in the health panel. Having to retrain yourself in using tools with your prosthetic is such a great way to extend your playthrough when the inevitable happens.
Damn though, the mod scene for this game is just ever expanding. Rocking B42 myself so no multiplayer yet, but some fantastic modders have implemented some of the best mods over from B41.
I still can’t recommend Week One enough. Slayer has done a great job, and added some great scenarios to make the game a bit dicier at the start, and there’s some very active development on his Discord about the upcoming addition called The Ark.
It’s a staple of any time i play with mods. Plus i feel like it adds a bit of “lore” to the character if they lose an arm. Especially on multiplayer with friends it can build their characters “lore” too.
I’ve thought about week one, but afaik there’s no multiplayer. I love this game and the NPC mod added a lot of life to the game, but multiplayer is where i have the most fun
Yeah, sorry if I push Week One so much. I feel it’s the only way I can play Zomboid anymore as it adds so much “realism” to the start of the game. I really hope The Indie Stone hire the guy sooner than later as despite the jank in the mod (he is technically replacing zed with NPCs on a limited codebase afaik), it just works so well on the build-up from days 1-7. Not having an MP option for B42 yet also sucks. I’m primarily an SP type of person, so the MP aspect isn’t high on my list.
The only other mod I could recommend, albeit a bit OP, is the B41 version of RV Interior. It changes the gameplay loop as once you find a working vehicle, it becomes your home. Playing inventory Tetris with a base that can be as small as 3x3 tiles, up to a massive truck trailer can be fun and rewarding lol.
RV Interior is definitely a staple of my modpack. It’s definitely OP. Though, I have heard there’s a bug with interiors spawning with a fuckton of zombies in it. So the risk of that happening is probably at least a bit of an upset
I’ve heard of that bug but never encountered it. I have had zed spawn in a few times in interiors before, but never a horde level, more of a “Surprise! I bit you in the dark and now you’re already dead.” On B42 the mod author stated it wouldn’t be out until 42 was marked stable, so a few other modders (BuchoJefe & Mickey Knox primarily) jumped the gun and added their own versions of RV Interior. I use the former’s mod, and it’s pretty solid, as it randomizes interiors. Doesn’t always make sense (like an ambulance interior in a van or box truck), but weird conversions are a thing, so I think it fits in. Adding in Vanvival makes it even more OP, unless you make it part of the lore.
Glad to see you’re playing it again on 503!
Wow, it’s weird to realise that there is so much depth and features in a game that look like this 😀
The amputation was a mod, but besides that it’s all vanilla. I really like it because it feels like surviving an actual zombie apocalypse.
Honestly, i think the way it looks kind of helps all the features. If it was full on 3D like Skyrim or something i think there would be a lot less stability due to how much is going on. Plus the top down keeps me from getting overwhelmed
Yeah, that will also require more work and animations for each feature like this. Much easier to do in a game like this.
Project Zomboid really does have a surprising amount of depth to it. It’s also got a really impressive modding scene. Like, in this particular instance, cutting off limbs and prosthetics are from a mod. In the vanilla game, once you’ve been bitten, you’ll die soon after no matter what you do.
Ah, okay. Thanks for the info!
The Dwarf Fortress effect.
Heh, true. When I first looked at it after hearing so much about it I thought it was a wrong game.
I love playing PZ with my friend. We are newbies, but we just moved to Riverside and found a house near the lake so we can settle in there, close to the woods but not too far from the city (by car) to grab what we need.
Is it the gated community near there? Me and my friends love to setup there because of how close to town it is but how isolated (and defensible) it is
It’s close to the lake, 2 smaller houses no gates, but we started building some fences. We went out to get more nails since we were out, we stumbled upon some abandoned factory and houses. Then some alarm flipped on in an ABANDONED house with For Sale sign… 80+ zombies circled us and I died… so yeah, maybe not the best place to settle after all
