Sorry for the no effort meal but they made me take an IQ test today and my brain is fried after that.
Cost per person: $1.20
No apologies needed. I love making an elaborate meal from scratch, and I also love frozen nuggies and boxed KD. It’s all good. I’d happily eat a bowl of this.
Also a good time - an egg over easy added to the Mac n cheese. I first heard it described as “trailerpark carbonara.” Would recommend
When I pulled the sausage out of the fridge I seriously considered grabbing an egg.
One of my favs, with just plain old red hot hotdogs. Sausage if I’m classing it up. Needs a load of black pepper.
The only time I’ve ever had red hotdogs was in jail. I was more than a bit hungover so I let someone else have them. There was a healthy amount of fresh cracked black pepper in here.
In jail? What did you do?!
Edit: Love the meal by the way. Easy, delicious and kid friendly.
90 mph in a 55 zone with a BAC of .15 on a motorcycle. Don’t try this at home. It might cost you $7,000 to $15,000 over the course of the next 7 years. And it’s stupid.
Expensive lesson. Surprised they didn’t impound the motorcycle.
It was impounded. Cost me $145 to get it out the next day.
Dis you at least win the race?
The race to jail? Yes.
Well did you have them or did you give them away?
I had one bite and gave the rest away
Definitely a contender. I’d prefer the smokies when available but hot dog mac is no slouch. A worthy 9/10.
This is a holy concoction, and people who don’t fully appreciate that are the worst. My wife being one of them. It’s like. You like both things separately. One is cheesy. One is smoky, savory meat. Why in the fuck wouldn’t they be immaculate together? And I’m not even interested in the sociological speculation about whether it has the stink of poverty attached to it; it’s worthy of all income classes, and a gift to people on a budget because it slaps so hard for next to no money. Throw some broccoli on the side and you can even convince yourself it’s a balanced meal. 10/10 could eat every week if someone would let me.
You speak the truth. My wife who grew up in poverty still loves this so me saying I’m too dead to cook was an opportunity for her to say “can we have Mac and cheese and smoky sausage?!”
I grew up in poverty too but the food never suffered because everyone could cook. This is truly a meal for everyone, even the non cookers.
I just did this myself in Monday. Loaded Bacon Mac with cubed kielbasa.
I wish I could find meaty pork belly for less than the price of bacon and smoke my own.
That looks tasty af!
Aldi has this apple chicken sausage and Gouda mac and cheese that I make this same thing with. Such a solid meal
I had completely forgotten about that in the 32 years since I would have last seen it. Thank you.
I had no idea I was attacked as a child. Explains a lot really
Also good on you dude in audience who cheers real loud when they add the ketchup
Throw in some frozen peas for veggies.
Isn’t that too healthy for the spirit of this? If it were up to me I would have added kimchi.
This is my kinda jam. Simple, tasty and cheap. I’ve been poor, I can appreciate what you have.
It’s definitely a zero effort ,close to zero cost, comfort meal.
