Faye Wong is ‘one of the biggest pop stars in the Chinese-speaking world’, at least of the 90s-00s. Born in Beijing, she moved to British Hong Kong at the age of 18, and sang in Cantonese until the late 90s, then switching to her native Mandarin.

The cover of ‘Dreams’ is in Cantonese, and was included in Wong’s 1994 album ‘Random Thoughts’, under the title ‘夢中人’ (‘Mung Tsung Yan’, meaning ‘Dream Lover’). Her next album ‘Sky’ includes a Mandarin cover.

She also played a role in ‘Chungking Express’.

      They’re meant to be companion pieces.

      IIRC, Fallen Angels and Chungking Express were shot as one film: day (Chungking Express) and night (Fallen Angels) portraits of Hong Kong, but the runtime got too long and they decided to split it into two movies.

        Err, they were written together, but produced separately:

        During the production of ‘Ashes of Time’, Wong had a two-month break as he waited for equipment to re-record sound for some scenes. He was in a bad mood, feeling heavy pressure from his backers and worrying about another failure, and so he decided to start a new project: “I thought I should do something to make myself feel comfortable about making films again. So I made ‘Chungking Express’, which I made like a student film.” Conceived and completed in six weeks, the new project was released two months before ‘Ashes of Time’.

        One story he’s originally written was split from ‘Chungking Express’ into ‘Fallen Angels’, due to the runtime. But yeah, he’s said that to him they’re one film.
