I am so glad to have swum into this new furry based Lemmy instance! It has been a nice change of speed for me…Since my recent awakening to an Anthrosona that I have not thought about for 43 years. Which is a Basking Shark, a rare thing in the community, I’ve noticed! On that front, I have been writing a bit to figure out the true nature of my Anthrosona (which is my account name, btw).
Anyway, some things have been happening for me: I am taking a Python Certification course so I can learn Python and actually write code (which won’t be rickety and flimsy). On the gaming front, I’ve been playing a mix of Vintage Story, some shooters like Metro 2033 Redux, replaying Cyberpunk 2077 (as a trans man V).
Another thing: In the wake of some bad tech news (more open source peeps are wanting to use or are using AI in the dev workflows). Instead of being sad, I just changed my whole email provider (from Tuta to Posteo). Kicked LibreOffice out of my productivity loop (using Apostrophe, a Markdown editor and Bibisco for writing), as my needs aren’t particularly complicated I am not noticing any holes in my current choices.
Tried to install Gentoo Linux on my current solo laptop, alas that failed, so I had to stick with Garuda Linux (Sway Edition, BTW). It’s still a pretty nice set-up but…I wish that I wasn’t so weirdly goofy when it comes to doing more complex installs. Perhaps one day, I will install a slightly more complicated Linux distro with an unslopped init system. ROFL Perhaps trying to install Chimera Linux is more my speed as it is far simpler than Gentoo and not slopped up! I would just have to learn to work with musl libc.
I also voted today, that was nice, and it makes me happy to do my part in making sure that things don’t become worse. Things have been mostly chill with the exception of some stressful feelings here and there, but nothing that I can work through!

I saw this trend happening, I don’t know what to think about it. Why did you choose to changed fril Tuta to Posteo ? I use ONLYOFFICE instead of LibreOffice, but otherwise I just type everything in markdown (I use Beaver Notes), even before posting long comments / post / message on anything.
I use to have Lubuntu before switching back to Winslop (for academic reason), in the mean tile I tried different distros (mostsly Arch based) and when I recently switched back to Linux, I started with CachyOS before breaking everything and now I use Bazzite (I can’t be trusted with too much power).

Basking Shark is rarely talked about, as they aren’t scary, they are gentle giants that only accidentally can hurt a diver. They tend to be very passive, dive deep, and breech the ocean’s surface like whales (for unknown reasons). A fascinating species as they are one of the few that are filter feeding sharks. Thank you for the warm welcome! I thought about being a hybrid, but found myself quickly realizing that I feel exclusively shorky (mostly a gentle giant).

Well, it is more about emulating the trans man experience as he…Hasn’t had bottom surgery but top surgery that was the vibe that I was going for! You can choose mismatching gender expressions. But still be considered technically male or female.

Tuta expressed an interest in AI and using it in the workflows, forgetting that programmers before them have used handwritten automation to automate boring repetition for other aspects of their project. They just want to use AI and I find that to be nasty AF. Posteo, because of their commitment to being Climate conscious, won’t ever have that heel turn. So I chose them instead.

My small town/city is pretty chill so it isn’t often a target of tomfoolery…So the voting went smoothly, I happened to research everyone before going to vote because you can pull up sample ballots beforehand. I take my time and get informed…Because MAGA and GOP use uninformed voters as weapons. I do not want to be a weapon to be used. I will work against those types any day of the week.

Well, there are a few that you’d have to be concerned about like tiger sharks, bull sharks, oceanic white tips, occasionally great whites (if you happen to look like their preferred prey). Generally sharks don’t attack people unless it is mistaken identity, one acts as prey, or you invade a shark’s personal space and don’t know to back off in time. Others will eat just about anything because food is scarce or in the case of tiger sharks…They will literally just eat anything because their teeth aren’t specialized for any particular prey. Humans are on the menu, if said human is not careful.

One thing that I love about Cyberpunk 2077 is the flexible nature of the character creator, it’s powerful and cool. Has a lot of nice choices for how you shape your actual in-game character. Even though, you never see your character outside of certain situations as this is a first-person game.

There is a thing called Greenwashing and I feel that Infomaniak is engaging in that, wouldn’t surprise me as this is one of the many tactics that corpos use to peddle their filth. That is news to me, as they were put on a watch list about being slopped and there being no alternative…So that means, that I might need to investigate it. However, I couldn’t really use an immutable distro anyway. As common container dependencies that make it easier to run software in mini-distros…are slopped. Things like Podman, Docker, are using Claude and other chatbot prompt slop to develop. Which wouldn’t ever be needed with projects of their nature. It’s just tragic that they get a whiff of AI and are addicted.

As much as I would prefer to ignore politics, that will catch up with me and others that I would want to be protected if I am not careful. So, I tend to participate by engaging reasonably and avoiding overwhelming myself. The nature of politics is woven deeply into human culture…It’s not something that can be ignored, without consequences as politics informs a lot of worldviews, workplace practices, even open source projects. Look at the wildfire spread of slop within the open source scene.

Well, I don’t mind playing fpg with great character customisation, it’s like irl, you can customise yourself and yet not see it except in certain situation.

Well, even if Bazzite turns out to be slopped, I won’t really change it as it’s very plug-and-use and I had no issues (besides the recording issue), but it’s not just Bazzite apparently. But what I’d like is to see the implication of AI in the project, and how it’s used. We do need transparency on this end.

Yeah, character customization is just lovely, the more robust the better in my opinion. As being able to express a hidden self in a video game is also a nice thing to be able to do. Or just be someone different than your normal self.
On the matter of Infomaniak: without doing proper research on the matter, it is a hedged guess on my part. All I know is there is no ethical use of AI as it is trained on stolen data, AI powers surveillance capitalism, and is actively being used in a movement to disenfranchise skilled laborers and creatives due to a profit motivation by the ultra rich.
On the Bazzite issue: That is your choice, I only mentioned it to get your opinion on the matter. As you know where I stand, I won’t repeat it.
Yeah, I don’t get insulted easily; but I do get annoyed when minority groups are attacked needlessly because they are being used as a target for pushing political agendas. I pay close attention to what is going on due to this, making sure people are getting needlessly pulled into the crossfire.

This week I noticed by accident that a new season of Edgerunners got released. I’m looking forward to watching it as I liked S1 (once I have the time for it ._. ).
Tried to install Gentoo Linux on my current solo laptop
Reminds me of when I was bored in online classes and started installing Gentoo in a VM. Took quite a while (because if Rust for Firefox) and in the end it didn’t boot because I forgot to include the driver for the virtual disk in the kernel :D But I was able to change the type of virtual disk adapter and it did boot and run.

My hopes are that it is the gateway to other programming languages like C, that will allow me to work with my computer and tell it, "No, this is what I need you to do. I want to use Python for web stuff/interacting with HTML and C eventually. As I have plans to shore up my own WM or customize Sway more to my liking!

Haven’t watched the show, at all, but I hear decent things about it. I have only interacted with the Tabletop lore and Cyberpunk 2077 game itself! So, I am excited to try the new content for the game that is related to the Edgerunners animated series.

At least you figured it out, I think Gentoo is going to be my final boss in terms of distros, once I have a PC that is strong enough to create a VM for Gentoo. I will practice in a virtual environment until I am comfortable doing an install on bare metal. As last time I tried, I got to kernel creation but…Failed. This time didn’t even get past the Stage 3 as something was wonky AF. Dunno what, could’ve been anything.

That sounds like very good motivations.
But why exactly C and not a different low-level language like C++, Rust or Zig?
C is used as a basis for the Sway, the window manager I am using. I don’t care for the syntax of C++, Zig is a bit TOO picky for me at the moment as a novice to be bothered with. That one can be a third language after learning C if I really see a need for it. I am ignoring Rust because one can already create memory safe code, it is just a matter of writing it into your code. Error handling and making sure it is graceful is an art. One that I plan on learning how to do without Rust.
Ultimately, another reason why is because I can create my own modules and other dependencies for the things I plan to create. As…the sloppening in open source is here, and in order to fight it, I need to use a language that is flexible for writing your own dependencies and modules.

Since last month, a lot has happen but yet not a lot has happen at the same time. My weeks were pretty much full and I had a lot to do. Lately my brain has been playing tricks on me and I don’t think it’s due to lack of sleep as I get enough sleep.
I promised to write an essay on this one, so no matter how long it will take me to write it, I’m gonna write it. But I also want people to engage in conversations, so I’ll probably drop some questions ;3
Christmas (not sure if that’s how I should name it)
Since it’s not halloween anymore, I started to look for things I could get for Christmas on my own. Some of those things would actually be useful, but some of them less. I’m also looking for what my friends would be happy to get. As usual, the rise of price make it hard for me to offer things they might expect to get, but I’ll try my best to find things they didn’t think about.
Gaming
I’ve been back to playing VRChat after a long break, I played with a friend who found an issue with an unwanted asset on the quest version of my avatar and instead of removing I decided to keep as it could fit a cyberpunk aesthetic in some cases. He also encouraged me to progress in the Fish world (a world where you just fish). In the mean time, I also got back to playing Geometry Dash. For the past two weeks I’ve played to player-made levels and now I find the default level very easy compare to what players make, and yet I was only playing hard levels.
I’m happy that I’ve been able to play with a friend, cause even on Minecraft servers, I always play alone while people have teams.
Friends
With a friend, we’re gonna try to attend a convention this month. Not a furry, cause they’re too expensive at the moment, but a general cultural (more anime-focus) convention. Usually there’s some furries that go to those conventions, and it’s the case. A furry association is gonna be attending the convention, and I also have three online friends that are gonna be attending it, one of them just got his fursuit recently. I do hope to break my record in terms of taking photos xD
In another note, my German also improved but I fear that I’m losing a bit of the German I’ve learned since I’m barely practicing. I should go back to Telegram as I have a lot of furries from Germany on it, but they’re not really active and I don’t want to bother them with that until they become available.
Drawing
I have drawn a drawing a few days ago, but I can’t find inspiration to make another one. I have planned to offer a drawing to a content creator that I like, but I didn’t find the inspiration and yet their fursona is really hard for me to draw in a kemono style. I looked for reference and it’s a barely used fursona, so even regular art is hard to find, so let alone finding it in one style.
Venting
On a sader note, I’ve been feeling mixed lately. I fear that I’m gonna have anger issues, I can’t also communicate with my colleagues as none of them wanna talk to me. I understand them, I’d probably do the same thing, they all have their friend group and I’m friend with none of my colleague. The only time where they talk to me is when we have to do group work, and it’s mostly when they have no choice but to be with me. I find that annoying as they all see me be alone but yet being next to them and try to talk with them, when we presents ourselves most of them said they’d gladly talk to people that are alone, most of them said they were extrovert, and I’m not seeing any of that being applied. Maybe am I expecting too much from them ? I don’t really know how to go to people irl. Well, I did it previously, but it’s because they were wearing a giant anthropomorphic animal costume, so it’s not the same thing.

Nope. Up to now I always was lucky enough to just not get in overly stressful long-term situations and for the rest I go through with it by calculating the right priorities.
What kind of music are you listening to recently ?
I was going through the last uploads of YouTube music promotion channels I get most of my music from. Then this has been interrupted by this (origin of it)
After finishing that playlist I will return to the (Rock / Metal) Nightcore channel and after that some of the uploads of Defqon.1 (which I’m looking forward to).Related to this: RANT. The Nightcore channel started to include AI music which always sours my mood when they come up between the real music. me mad.
PS: whenever I reply to such comments, I’m afraid that I talk too much about myself instead of responding (for the lack of a better word) to the author.
The kind of tricks that my brain started playing on me is making disappear events and entire days from my memory, which is very annoying. From medical records I yet don’t have apnea, now you make me wonder if I do apnea (and I don’t know how to know if I have apnea) and I really hope I don’t. But I don’t have snoring, that’s for sure (don’t worry, I would have been made aware of it if I did) and if I do, I just need to change my cushion.
You can give small things, even the most minor thing means a lot. I only give gift to the people I very care about, so it’s not everyone, even some of my family members don’t get any gift.
I personnaly know that I’ll be gifting to all my soul’s brothers and some close friends.

Ah, I hate AI music, sounds so bad. I started to get a lot of them after listening to a remix from Fame On Fire (which is not AI by the way, I really recommend this group).

While animal-themed apps are obviously superior, Voyager is a good choice from a feature perspective on Android. Works well, easy to navigate. It at least has an animal-themed icon if not name. :)
Voyager looked like an iOS app so i didnt feel like using it. Yeah im picky about this lol
I don’t use Android apps for the Fediverse (only browser), so I can’t speak from personal experience. There is an app called Interstellar which supports multiple platforms (Mbin and Piefed beside Lemmy) and also multiple accounts and looks quite clean.
