That’s an interesting strategy. I chose to have https://git.singpolyma.net/cheogram-smtp live behind a mailserver instance on the same box just to handle any SMTP edge cases, etc, but speaking the SMTP directly does probably give a bit of control.
I think I am going to use this for one of my XMPP domains as I really don’t care much about sending email from that domain, but an easy way to sign up to email notifications though XMPP would be cool to have.
The simplicity that I don’t have to run and maintain a mailserver is a big plus, otherwise I would probably not bother with it.
