Because I have no idea if I like them or not
*I really appreciate the answers, thank you
Have you listened to their albums? Do you feel compelled to listen to them again? None of us can tell you if you like them or not.
Tool should have never released their most recent album, and just kept touring the hits.
I love Tool, but man. That album might be the biggest let down in musical history. All that time, all that hype. Anyone still listening to it? Still have 10,000 days in my rotation, but not that garbage.
I used to think Maynard was super cool when I was young. Now I kinda see him as a bit immature and kinda full of himself. He’s alright, but they have fallen from the limelight for me.
I enjoyed the new album and even had the opportunity to see them live. Loved it!
Everyone likes Tool
They are objectively good music. A person that doesn’t like tool most likely doesn’t like the genre of… well they probably don’t like a really wide general genre of hard rock.
I do like their music and I enjoy listening to most of their albums, from a musical technique point of view there is literally nothing bad to say about the band.
But, recently, I found out that, in order to be able to see them live, one has to be subscribed to their on line fan service which gives access to the pre-order of their live events tickets even before they hit the normal sale channels. Given their fame it’s already hard to be able to find a ticket to one of their live shows, which are also already quite expensive themselves. If we count the cost of the subscription to their fanclub (50$/year) it seems like they don’t care about their less wealthy fans.
This has changed my perspective on the band and its message: before making this discovery I always saw Tools as a group focused on the enrichment of individuals through art and self-improvement. Now I see them as the guys who speak nice words but then act in a complete opposite way for their own benefit, because walking the way they talk about it’s too much of an hassle for themselves.
In conclusion I’ve decided to avoid going to their live concerts and to only listen to their music via open platforms such as YouTube.
Money are not needed for spiritual awakening so I’m sure they won’t be bothered by missing my money from their cachets

Money corrupt anything that wants to be corrupted. Having principles should avoid this corruption but, evidently, Tools have decided they don’t have principles to care about.
And mind you, it was a free and informed decision for them. I cannot fathom anyone forcing a band like them with their reach and love from their fanbase to do anything they wouldn’t be willing to do themselves in the first place
Its a bunch of guys who are worldclass on their individual instruments. Tool says their songs mean whatever you think they mean. People seem to find them pretentious now but I think they maybe just lost some of their obscure coolness by being more widely known it seems.
I can’t speak for the personality of Maynard cause i don’t know the guy but they are my n1 band in every spotify end of year list. The latest albums seems to be a hit or miss depending who you talk to but I freakin love Invincible, Descending, and Culling Voices.
The music is complex and requires a bit of listening before your brain starts to predict thz patterns for that sweet dopamine hit but oh boy is it worth it. Popular music just sounds bland and repetitive in comparison.
I mean… What’s the point in talking about a band you don’t know? Make an opinion and then discuss, not the other way around.
But anyway, most bands have only 1-2 polarizing factors (musical style, artists’ personality, overzealous or otherwise annoying fans, etc.). Tool has a lot more. That makes people lean more towards either love or hate on the spectrum. Personally, I lean towards love since I’m not really influenced by Maynard’s personality nor the fans’. The music is pretty great, for the most part. There’s times when I’m not in the mood to listen to the interludes or whatever you wanna call them, so I skip them and that’s about it.
I really like Tool. I have at least 3 of their albums and have yet to find anything I don’t like about them.
Give them a listen: https://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=tool
I like, though im not gonna pretend to understand what their songs are about
Some of their songs feel like… How it’s to say? If they recorded just one of them and quit, they’d still be legendary and covered to death. And they have plenty of them.
It greatly depends on what you want to find in them. Maybe it isn’t there, so it doesn’t stick to you. Put one of their albums on while walking or doing stuff and see for yourself.
Good idea. I just can’t decide if I like what I’m hearing or not
