A 9800X3D gets ~820 single thread and ~8600 multithread. So its 41% the speed on single thread and 30% multithreaded. That is more than a decade out of date still a long way to go.

A crime against humanity and a breach of his human right to life is not adequately met by an appology, its more adequately dealt with by a trial for those responsible for the death under human rights legislation. We need to stop letting those in power off for their crimes.

Someone was reviewing some footage and decided to hide the deletion in amongst lots of other benign videos. They seem to always loose the critical videos showing police brutality don’t they!?

Its not the populace, our politicians just like in the US have gone rogue. People are voting for the nutters due to anti immigration propaganda and so increasingly getting far right. Its happening across the entire western world and its bad news for everyone.

I feel like democracy shouldn’t be constantly protesting against the things as politicians continue to take power away from the people, it should be the people bringing great analysis and ideas to governments to implement. The entire system is backwards, we spend all our time fighting the politicians who are constantly becoming more corrupt trying to take more power and more money for businesses they profit from. We deserve the politicians we get because we just don’t see what it could become better with less awful people in charge.

Most technology adoption follows an S curve, it can often take a long time to start to get going. Linux has gradually and steadily been improving especially for games and other desktop uses while at the same time Microsoft has been making Windows worse. I feel more that this is Microsoft’s fault, they have abandoned the development of desktop Windows and the advancement of support for modern processor designs and gaming hardware. This has for the first time has let Linux catch up and in many cases exceed Windows capabilities on especially gaming which has always been a stubborn issue. Its still a problem especially in hardware support for VR and other peripherals but its the sort of thing that might sort itself out once the user base grows and companies start producing software for Linux instead.
It might not be enough, but the switching off Windows 10 is causing a change which Microsoft might really regret in a few years.

Grid forming will just mean the keep running the house when the power goes off, it’s not safe for them to be pushing power when it’s disappeared, that has been set by regulation in many countries.

Maybe one day fusion will finally deliver and we might have cheap and clean energy with no consequences to the environment other than a few big reactors in a country. But until that day arrives and we work that out we have to transfer and Wind, Solar and batteries are winning because they are cheaper than gas, coal and nuclear.

That gets in the way of corporations making money out of “normal market movements”. Its just supply and demand when companies do it, the moment the working class tries to do the same they find themselves getting punished. If its illegal its going to need to be illegal for companies too and this means governments have to start doing their job again and reigning in corporate criminality.

It’s low power that is still making arm small computers popular. It’s impossible to get a pc down into the 2-5 Watt power consumption range and over time it’s the electrical costs that add up. I would suggest the RPI5 is the thing to get because it’s expensive for what it is and more performance is available from other options supported by armbian.

The real value of uplink was that it was a game about hacking, it wasn’t trying to be realistic it had artificial tension added as well as simplified concepts but added gameplay around that. Almost all of the modern hacking games are much more realistic and capable but also miss what made Uplink the iconic game which is gameplay.
I would love a spiritual successor to Uplink, I would definitely play that, but so far all the hacking games I have seen since have fallen into the trap of realism and programming.

The thing is peertube wont grow unless the people aware of it start advertising and using it as an alternative. It takes collective investment in building the audience on an alternative for it to become viable.

There is no end to the greed of those with millions and especially billions and they aren’t content to just keep running a profitable business, they have to get all the money.
This is just the history of humanity and finances forever, the one saving grace in all this is every big business gets complacent in its money making and seeks ever increasing profit (and becomes management heavy) until a young upstart finds a way to do it a lot better and cheaper and disrupts the market. Google has become the big lumbering unable to change organisation seeking maximum profit now, its become IBM.

the lack of control group undergoing the same monitoring means there is a high chance of bias.
I would also want to see secondary measures such as the amount of queries people did and what they actually used it for. Might be worth tracking over time to see if there is an increase or decrease in use. These sort of secondary measures give some confidence that it is useful and its continuing to be so and its not just people behave differently when watched.

He made that pretty clear in the run up to the election really, commit to nothing and do nothing just deliver soundbites. All he ever cared about was being in government, he had no reason to be doing it other than the power itself.

They finally realise that supporting a genocide might land them in the hague for crimes against humanity. It might, it certainly should but I fear that today the rich and powerful are beyond the reach of the law.

Even if your in and have a history of good questions and responses it is still ridiculously hard to get a question accepted. Stackoverflow is dying due to its own choices and its driven many people away from it. They caused their own peak in 2014 and its amazing it took this long to decline.
Everyone has given Linux answers, its also worth knowing quite a lot of UEFI’s contain the ability to secure erase as well. There are a number of USB bootable disk management tools that can do secure erase as well.

That was the point, politicians all over the EU have designed the system to do exactly that. The entire dither and delay tactics and watering down of measures, laws and scrutiny were all in the pursuit of extraction of maximum money from the governments into private hands in the name of investments and the politicians took their bribes to make it happen.
I use a ZeroWater filter to get down to 0 Total Dissolved Solids and then third wave packets to reintroduce good minerals for coffee. Its still the case for me that this is cheaper than trying to buy distilled water or using distillation. Reverse osmosis is probably cheaper overall but a lot more initial outlay and it depends on how much water you need.
Brita and other similar small filters do a poor job of removing total dissolved solids (for me its the difference between 260 and 245 which is almost none removed) so they don’t change the situation for coffee extraction all that much
