You can check Estonian real estate sites if you don’t believe me. You can get a cheaper apartment easily. Like the cheapest 1 room ones are like 40k and outside the capital it’s way cheaper still or it was last I checked but that was no more than 5 years ago.
Local candies and food production is definitely a thing here now but according to my parents it was less prominent during the soviet era because you were obligated to give some of your production away to the occupiers. The most famous local candy companies is definitely still running and taste the same according to my mom, they are called Kalev if you wanna look them up.
Huh? Food was incredibly one sided in soviet times, that’s like the one thing that everyone knows if they know anything about the soviet occupation. Like you had to have connections to get any variety. My parents for example made their own vodka and cooking greese and traded it for more varied food. What the soviets did good was apartment design because before apartments didn’t commonly come with a kitchen and bathroom.
Also housing was different then, you usually got an apartment with your job and you kept it while you had that job but most of Eastern Europe still has affordable housing. Like I bought a newly built 3 room apartment in the capital for 100k euros fairly recently.
It’s possible some ex soviet countries didn’t get their dose of ethnic/cultural cleansing and maybe even had a good life under it but by no means were living standards better back then unless their countries have really gone down the toilet now and most countries are doing better now.
If the options are Stalin or capitalism, then capitalism would be a clear winner even if it’s shit because Stalin and his ideology still has the 2 issues from the first panel but on top of that he would execute anyone with an actual good system.
Yup. Also shot the anarchists, that worked with them and wanted democracy, in the back of the head during a meeting, The USSR then also did imperialism in their neighboring countries, deported a ton of people from those countries to death camps in siberia and allied with the nazies dividing Europe in their treaty
Lol no. I’m in Eastern Europe, living standards are way better now. The only good thing the USSR did here was trains and houses and those are better now. Those 2 was not worth death camps and criminalisation of my culture and language.
I’m from an ex soviet country and I can tell you that the people who miss it are the ones who got free apartments and property from people who were kidnapped and sent to the soviet death camps in siberia. I have not met anyone else who misses that time when you had to live in constant fear being deported and worked to death and when your culture and language was basically criminalised.
Communists are fine, tankies on the other hand are not. It’s not fun watching tankies defend the USSR as someone who had a large part of their family deported to their death camps.
This. Trams are so much nicer, carry more people, way less maintenance cost and the tracks look so good if grass grows between it, also I don’t get motion sickness on them. You don’t even need any asphalt for them which is expensive to maintain, looks worse than pretty much anything except maybe a literal pile of garbage and heats up the surrounding area.
I have tried both and I absolutely don’t understand why people use those. Most IDEs work better in my opinion and for just editing text files nano is better. A lot of people way smarter than me use em but I don’t see the appeal.
Nice formating for config files and instant boot up when opening said files.
Nah, I’m looking for a nice text editor, not a full on IDE. Something I can quickly open to change config files and stuff that has good formatting and can also auto detect the formating. By the time vscode boots up I have gotten bored and done the changes in nano.
Oh wow, this is really nice. I was using System Monitoring Center but this is so much nicer. My only complaint is no CPU temperature display but that’s not a huge loss.
Windows had 2 pieces of software that didn’t have a better alternative in Linux, now I just gotta find something like Notepad++ and I’m good.
Brother is my go to company for printers. Also definitely get laser, printer ink is like the most expensive substance on earth.
Mad Max is just a documentary of the Australian outback
Most of the fear of sharks is due to media. Like the vast majority of sharks will not attack a human even when in close proximity. There are like 1 or 2 species of sharks that have any danger to humans: bull and tiger sharks if I remember correctly. And even those 2 will most likely not attack, it’s just that other species are no danger at all.
Here in Estonia tap water is great everywhere. Like my parents have a well at their farm connected to their plumbing and it’s the best water I have ever had. The capital has water that tastes kinda like drinking pool water but that is perfectly safe too and only an issue in the capital city.
Yea, no, elections were a joke in the soviet union. Pretty much everyone knew your vote counted for nothing and they started offering people food so they would show up to vote to give it some legitimacy. Unlike current Russia the soviet propaganda was mostly a laughing stock at the time.
Also the party members were basically picked by nepotism alone. Sure, you could have internal elections but the winner was always the one with most friends in the party. That’s kinda like saying north Korea is democratic because there are some internal elections while in practise it’s pretty much a monarchy.
