You pretty much said what I would’ve said, but probably better :)

I have 3 Macs I want to switch to Linux, so I’m approaching this conversion piece by piece, using my thinkpads as placeholders. Figuring out new cloud software can wait until they’re all switched.

  • Ah ok, thanks

I suppose the biggest thing I’m looking for a solution for is photos.

I have my phone to set up to sync to iCloud, which then automatically download to my desktop, which is then automatically backs up via Time Machine.

How could I transition this behaviour to Linux keeping in mind I’ll be using an iPhone for at least another 3 years?

  • So last week my boss gave me 4 older laptops and I was looking for games that would work on Thinkpad T420s with Mint.

I got Myth II running on those 4 Linux machines and 2 Macs. I have 3 friends to LAN party it with.

    Check out Project Magma.

They’ve been doing the work for decades now to keep the game alive. You need a “disc” to install (available on myabandonware.com), but they have installers that do all the heavy lifting of getting it to work on modern machines.

Then the two must-have plug-ins are Twice Born Edition, which gives you upscaled graphics and The Fallen Lords: Deluxe Edition, which gives you the Myth:TFL campaign in Myth II: Soulblighter. I also installed about 80 co-op/solo scenario plug-ins to play too, but you don’t have to unless you want to. Siege of Belial and The Long Journey series look pretty fun but haven’t tried them yet.

I fucking loved Myth as a kid and I am absolutely stoked that I can play it again.

  • We have bins around our city for people to drop electronics off for recycling. I’ve taken a few laptops from there. You’re not supposed to, but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

One I gave to my buddy who needed something just for emails and web browsing and whatnot, one is running a server, and a couple more went back in to the bin because they were actually broken, but I took the hard drives for the server machine. I have one on a self ready in case the server machine dies so I haven’t gone looking for any new ones in a while.
