  • So, as a rexxit refugee who doesn’t fully understand the details of federation, I have a question. When I make a post or comment and it gets shared out, is the actual content shared out, or just a link back to my content. Because I can see Threads issues either way: if copies of the content get shared and Threads’ userbase is so incredibly massive, then all the smaller instances are going to struggle with storage. And if links are shared, then smaller instances are going to struggle with traffic. [I suspect both storage and traffic will be issues anyway, but that each is more of a problem depending on how communication and federation is handled.]

It’s just something I’ve been curious about, because most of the comments I’ve seen have been about the difficulty of moderating the content, or what Meta will do with the data or your they’ll take over, but I don’t recall seeing anything about the strain on actual infrastructure and the additional cost to support the influx of users.

  • Counterpoints:

We know that tunnels have been found in Gazan hospital complexes. There has been no credible evidence that these were Hamas tunnels. Most hospitals I’ve worked at have had tunnels or underground hallways - hell, my high school had tunnels. The existence of “a tunnel entrance” that the Israelis refuse to let independent journalists into proves nothing.

We know by video evidence that injured hostages were taken to hospitals. Seems like install wins either way: either Hamas brings in prisoners for treatment and then suddenly the entire hospital is a Hamas compound and everyone there is affiliated with Hamas; or they don’t bring in prisoners for treatment and they’re barbarians who don’t understand the way that ‘civilized’ people conduct war. [Hey, how come Israel gets to kidnap Palestinians off the street and call them prisoners, but when Hamas does it, suddenly they’re hostages?]

I have seen no hostage testimony that doctors kept hostages jailed. I have read that hostages were unable to leave after getting treatment, but that doesn’t mean it was the doctors preventing them leaving.

Why are my comments important? Because Israel knows it’s losing public support for it’s war. Trying to demonize both the UN and the WHO [both of whom are targets of US conservatives] attempts to keep US conservatives strongly aligned with Israeli government interests.

  • Bullshit PR from Israel trying to deflect valid criticism. First off, hasn’t Israel repeatedly said they want nothing to do with Gaza after the war? And secondly, any compound they do build can take only a small fraction of the two million they’ve displaced.

And what’s going to be at this compound anyway? If they build it, it’ll be built on the easiest land to build on, so they’ll probably just bulldoze any open or agricultural land they can find. No one will have any money, so there won’t be any jobs, and with most of the agricultural land developed, and with water and other infrastructure destroyed, no one’s going to be able to grow crops to feed themselves. They’re going to be dependent on aid for a long time, and Israel has no interest in providing or even cooperating with that aid.

Plus this plan is only under “consideration”.

  • Man, you weren’t kidding, were you?

But, the neat thing about this SUV is that it has some “pop-up” features that will turn any parking lot into an instant party. I’m not exactly sure how they pop up, but somehow a DJ deck, speakers and a large TV emerge from the SUV’s roof, transforming it into a club stage. Essentially, this is as close as you’ll get to Soundwave from Transformers – minus the guns, of course. Source

  • “Embarrassing moment” + “no top on”: OP is very likely a woman because men aren’t likely to be embarrassed by being topless. I’d guess a bunch of other people* ran into the girls locker room while she was changing and either had just a bra on up top, or nothing on up top; and they grabbed her clothes and played keep away for a few minutes. But afterward, they told her she was pretty and mildly flirted with her.

    * ‘other people’ could be boys; but it feels like OP is from the Commonwealth, meaning it could also be a boarding school and thus a locker room raid by another house.

  • They’ve already occupied part of Georgia. I don’t think there’s actual fighting going on the (though there might be), but the Russians keep moving the actual, physical border markers farther into Georgian territory every year. After Ukraine was invaded, fought back and started making headway against Russia, Georgia kinda stuck it’s head up and said they’d love to be liberated too - except they never really did anything about it themselves, just mentioned it’d be nice if the Russians could be made to leave Georgian territory.

To be fair, I’m not sure Georgia is actually in a position to do much of anything, but with the Russians so occupied in Ukraine, it seems the most advantageous time in decades to at least try.

  • Napovointerco might be enacted.

I don’t see how. According to Wikipedia, states with 203 electoral votes have passed legislation - but states with pending legislation only bring in another 65 votes, which is still short of the 270 votes needed - and that’s only if all the states with pending legislation pass it instead of sending it back to committee, deferring it, or outright defeating it.

It may pass eventually, but I certainly don’t see it happening before next year’s elections.

  • The stock market is a mood ring for rich people, not anything to do with everyday Americans and everyday Americans are struggling more with food and rent, even car prices have skyrocketed. The Saudis and a bunch of other oil producing countries would really like to have their good buddy back in office and they’ve already said they plan to hike gas prices next summer to try to influence people away from Biden; his support for Israel is only going to exacerbate the situation. And Russia will spend lots of money to get their Russian puppet back in office, and to get more Russian puppets into Congress - not just for the chance to break the US, but also to break NATO, damage the UN and the EU, and finalize their Ukrainian land grab.

  • My old cat, when something was wrong with her world, she’d come and meow at me - she had a special “fix this!” meow - and then she’d lead me over to whatever was wrong: I’d like the litterbox cleaned, I want fresh water, I want the window open, top up my food please. Sometimes I couldn’t fix it (rain, snow, dietary restrictions), but she’d accept it if I couldn’t change it.

The new cat just screams for things to be fixed, but there’s never any indication as to what’s wrong. Plus she has serious chronic health conditions, so sometimes it’s I’d like fresh water please and other times the exact same meow means we have to go to the 24-hour emergency vet right now. Which is really much less helpful and informative than I’d like it to be. Also, if it’s something I can’t fix, she just decides that I haven’t understood and keeps meowing.
