Because one thing less useful than voting is not voting as a form of protest. And even less useful than that is encouraging others to do the same.

Voting one time may seem useless, but voting consistently in an informed direction and encouraging others to do the same ‘is’ useful. It’s just not obviously useful quickly.

The only thing useful about not voting is in the hope that things will fall apart more quickly and we can get to some good for collapse and rebuilding, but then what? Still don’t vote? Hope for a benign group that takes over and somehow does allow voting?

Most groups like this don’t have to be wrong about the data to be wrong about the interpretation. Did you know that on average, a person has one fallopian tube? That most crimes happen when I’ve cream sales are highest?

Making new friends as an adult and finding a girlfriend when you’re looking for one are two of the hardest things you’ll do in life. Take care of yourself and try finding things that interest you, but get out there and interact. Talk to people with the intention that an interaction is worthwhile even if it’s only in passing. Take some classes to learn something, not to pick a girl to home in on. Probably 90% of relationships people have are accidental or friend of a coworker or someone who noticed you actively involved in something that doesn’t have anything to do with what you’re actually doing.

Not voting because it’s not a good harm reduction strategy is just another way of saying it won’t do any good so don’t bother.

If you are trying to present a nuanced argument against some specific reason ‘for’ voting, more power to you, but you are seriously coming across as a worthless bot put in place to recommend not voting wherever possible.

Still, go out and vote

Then I realized that might be the perfect thing to start training it on by coming up with things like that in posts, as though that were a perfectly human thing to know how to do.

Because the example just demonstrates an example of conditioning, but the implications are much wider. The idea is that one signal can be replaced with another, which could be beneficial or detrimental, could intentional or accidental, may or may not be long lasting, but mostly just applies to a lot of situations quite a lot different than the exact example but the example serves as a convenient, familiar shorthand for referring to it easily.

Because killing a leader without a plan for who will replace them isn’t very efficient. A leader, unless he is particularly skilled, is rarely string enough to actually have that big of an influence but it’s enabled by the institutions. The only way to change the institutions is weakening the ones you want to weaken.

Probably because they thought physical discipline was an effective method of training at an impressionable age but was obviously only a method of punishment once you reached adulthood. Or maybe because enough of the people who made the laws could imagine themselves on the side of the prisoner, but none of them would ever be in the position of being a child again so there wasn’t enough self interest for that law to be different.

Basically probably no good reason, but just a misguided vague ‘nip it in the bud’ attitude carried over the generations.

Just for some perspective, it’s not always about retaining facts and content. Reading a dozen books on a topic can have exponentially better comprehension on a topic than reading the same book a dozen times, even if you can’t remember a single fact from any of the dozens of books. Quality is more important, and exposure to different views will be better over time. Unless you find yourself not getting anything out of a topic in the subsequent books, in which case it may be worth the rereading tact.

Not sure about the concerns op mentioned, but cooking fatty things in it is basically adding oil/seasoning. Cooking acidic food eats away at the coating, if only slightly, so you will need to season it intentionally more often.

Technically, if you only cooked tomatoes and other acidic food in it it will remove the seasoning over time if you don’t do anything. Guessing they are saying that eventually you will end up with more iron in your food than you should have.

Those would all start with the if, followed by two conditions, not a statement and then an if. There would be a condition to evaluate, followed by then/else?

Maybe it’s just worse when written. The period at the end of the sentence makes it hard to see how it could be misunderstood.

To your point though, not sure if I’m aware of any programming language that would continue a statement with a following if block. Far more likely that it would fail due to lack of an element to apply the 6 to rather than having a pointer to the previous object, or he would try getting what ever the literal version of a 6 would be, or maybe some slang version.

Funny thing is even that number would be based on all the people who can pay 20 but not 800. If it all has to be balanced by the users it would probably be an order of magnitude… Or the market would play like it logically should and it would be like 3 companies paying a million a month. But what would they do with it? Sell it at a loss for like 20 per user and hope they figure out some way to make money :)

Likely a mixture of these answers, though if you want to wait for an expert to weigh in maybe ask for that. A roadway is obviously a very different environment with a lot of money and research put into ensuring it can handle a lot of traffic and weight, having to accommodate worst case scenarios so it’s obviously going to have a very strong base, and a comparitively very durable and thick base of asphalt. Your driveway, on the other hand, is probably going to be covered in a mixture very much driven by price. If you do the minimum underlayment and thickness, you’re probably going to need to give it every advantage possible to avoid rework.
