Yep the whole Internet feels like a dying mall. There are still some places I go for specific needs, but I’d say my casual browsing of any kind just keeps getting smaller.

Sorry I’m out of touch with this these days, but does the esrb even matter anymore? At least on PC a lot of games aren’t even rated. Or if they are, it’s barely a factor. And lots of kids just play mobile games, which also aren’t rated by the ESRB either.

Technically speaking this sort of 'time stop’s phenomenon would have to selectively keep time going for certain objects. Otherwise you’d suffer to death because the air molecules are frozen or cause some sort of weird radiation issues from atoms colliding with other atoms as you moved while other things didn’t.

Basically any movement against bad people who happen to be part of a minority seems to get hijacked by bigoted people eventually.

How does Gen Z feel about nudity in films? Either nudity that fits the scene and feels logical or nudity just for fan service?

I’m cool if your just not a fan of shoe horned in and cringey sex scenes, but lots of younger folks come off as weirdly puritanically prudish to me. Why are we so much more comfortable with casual violence than casual nudity? That bothers me.

I really don’t understand how people who are reasonably devout followers of different religions ever end up together. Almost all of them make it against the rules or at least extremely problematic. Why would you marry someone that your religion says is going to hell because they don’t believe what you do? And if you do it anyway, why would you stay in that religion? Makes no sense.

It also sends mixed messages when your manager tells you to take time off for vacation and not check email, but then is often found on calls during their own PTO. Which is what my boss tends to do.

I still check in to certain niche subreddits that don’t exist on lemmy. Those feel pretty close to how they used to. The other day I took a look at /r/all and… ooof. It’s very apparent quality has completely nosedived. Lemmy /c/all is a much better representation of pre-blackout reddit /r/all right now.

Typically you need your main company password reasonably typeable because you’ll be entering it constantly and often in places that don’t support password autofill.

Which is also why forcing people to change passwords so often causes more issues than it solves. People just dumb it down until it meets the bare minimum requirements.

This was me failing out of my first programming job. College was crappy (forced to go to christian college) and I got effectively a 'script kiddy’s degree instead of a real software engineering degree. Tried to fake it till I make it with my first real job, got fired ended up in a significantly less technical IT job instead.

It’s not that this doesn’t matter, it does. But almost every time it’s mentioned is alongside industrial climate impacts as if they were at all in a similar scale.

They aren’t even close. People doing the ‘well actually’ thing for individual climate impacts are inadvertently being patsies for corporations to continue to deflect scrutiny away from the absolutely ridiculous levels of climate impacts they have. And while consumers are trying to move to metal straws, corporations have basically not even started trying to address low hanging fruit ways to mitigate climate change, let alone anything slightly tricky.

The biggest issue to me is that all music services offer effectively the same access to music. I’m not choosing between Spotify and YouTube music because my favorite artist is on one, but not the other. However we are conditioned to think this is ok when it comes to video. Streaming services never should have been content creators, we should be choosing Netflix vs Hulu based on price, app quality, video quality.

Agreed, VC have poured free money into excellent, but unsustainable businesses trying to chase ‘growth’ long enough that they can sell out just before everyone realizes that it won’t make money. It’s just a scam of rich people preying on other rich people.

Instead of trying to build a self sustaining company to begin with (which requires hard work to balance revenue against customer needs and desires) they build ‘free’ products that people love, but can’t make money, only to switch the company to crappy products that people hate, but now are trapped into using.

Our entire digital economy is built on these bait and switch companies and it sucks

Also helps for games with lots of grinding for resources. Get to just skip that with some basic editing (which is also why I don’t watch much streaming content… why watch someone else grind for resources for hours on end?)

Not really sure lemmy is all that much better from an outrage addict perspective, at least looking at All. Sure things are better if you curate your feed a bit, but that’s true on the other platforms as well.

Something that only makes sense on lemmy and not Reddit, but I think it would be cool to explore a combined account view. With defederation I’ve now ended up with multiple accounts that can all see different things. Could be nice to combine my beehaw and lemmy.world subscriptions view together.
