RIP FromSoftware.
RIP FromSoftware.
I mean, I bet it failed at making a regex that worked much faster than you could fail at writing a regex that worked. Sounds like progress! :D
Because yes, “the left” never changes anything, and only goes further right.
(hint: That’s not how this works)
Over the decades we’ve made massive strides in equal rights for various marginalized groups. But sometimes the dance takes a step backwards before moving forward again.
I’d rather them become a not-for-profit instead of a non-profit.
I mean, legit true though. A lot of ISPs are selling your data now too.
It’s less secure. Tor encrypts your BROWSER data. VPN encrypts ALL of your data. Your browser isn’t the only thing that you have to worry about regarding privacy.
Do you see how that would make Tor less secure than VPN? Is that clear?
I’m pointing out a false equivalency argument here, not arguing about your semantics. If you wanna start arguing the definitions of words, you’ve already lost.
Read your own damn article:
Because it’s designed with privacy and anti-surveillance in mind, it generally runs slower than the regular internet and is not designed for content streaming.
For Fucks sake…
If you think VPN-using browsers do not have vulnerabilities
VPN is not “a browser”, it’s a network stack. It is separate from whatever you use for a browser. If you use Tor, you still use a browser. So your argument is absolutely coming from an asinine point of view where you clearly don’t understand the technologies behind each.
This was just in October. This is only the latest in a long history of Tor being a target for attacks. Sorry you’re ignorant of that fact, but Tor is quite possibly the worst choice for any task. A VPN will always be faster, more reliable, and more secure.
Here’s another in January: https://www.securityweek.com/tor-code-audit-finds-17-vulnerabilities/
And, it’s basically the only service where it relies on freely added Tor exit nodes, where anyone can set up a node and start siphoning off data – as data between the exit node and your end path is NOT protected.
Granted, this is the same for VPNs, but anyone can set up their own Tor Exit node. VPNs have a business incentive to make sure not just anyone is in the chain for access to that data.
I can fully saturate a symmetrical gigabit connection with my VPN. I can’t touch a fraction of that with Tor.
Tor is for oppressive countries where anonymity and misdirection are more important than performance. It’s literally worse than a VPN in every single way unless you’re concerned with a major country coming for your head. And even then - Tor isn’t going to save you.
Windscribe $2/mo. Also supports Wireguard. I don’t even use their dumbass client, I just export a profile for Wireguard - which is quite a bit faster than OpenVPN
And Tor sucks. You shouldn’t use it for torrenting, it’s frequently targetted by intelligence agencies for IP unmasking, etc.
These fucking things always tip-toe around the issue anyone wants a VPN for: Piracy.
Are you pirating shit? Yes? Use a VPN.
Dumb idea. Focus on the road, idiot.
Bro, GhatGPT wrote a better apology:
Dear Community,
Look, we know we sell little plastic figures—not games, not platforms, not anything remotely digital—but somehow, we’ve managed to trip over our own shoelaces and knock something precious to all of you right off the shelf. Yes, we’re talking about itch.io, and yes, we understand the gravity of what happened.
We’re not going to sugarcoat it: we messed up. We’re not entirely sure how the dominoes fell this way, but somehow, through a series of unfortunate events (and probably some poorly-thought-out legal maneuvers), our actions have impacted an entire community that thrives on creativity and passion. That was never our intention, and it’s not who we want to be.
The truth is, we’re sitting here staring at our little figures, wondering how something so small can lead to such a big screw-up. We know this affects you, and we’re genuinely sorry for the frustration, confusion, and anger we’ve caused.
We don’t expect forgiveness overnight, but please know we’re working hard to make this right. We’re talking to the people who actually know what they’re doing (because, let’s face it, we clearly don’t), and we’re committed to doing better moving forward.
We value this community more than you realize, even if we’ve done a poor job of showing it. Thank you for your patience, and we hope you’ll give us the chance to earn back your trust—not just with our figures, but with our actions.
Not hard at all. Both responsible for many millions of needless deaths while holding power.
Thankfully they didn’t find any evidence of it being used, but they promptly fixed the issues and informed everyone. Great example of amazing management.
Yeah, QWERTY was absolutely used to slow down typing as well, but it had a secondary function of spreading out the letters.
DVORAK just has the one function. It didn’t have to contend with other baggage. But it doesn’t mean QWERTY didn’t also have that goal. But since QWERTY handles the same goal that DVORAK does, reasonably well, it doesn’t hit the threshold needed for us to swap over.
Additionally, DVORAK is kind of nasty because it has all of the vowels on the left hand. I just picked a random word “Control” and most of the work is being done by the right hand; most of the time on the same finger row, which is horribly inefficient. Control on QWERTY is roughly equally left and right handed; not clusters of similarly used letters.
A common estimate of the ratio of vowels to consanants in the english language is 3:1 – So you’ll be doing 3x as much work on your right hand than with your left. Which makes DVORAK kind of garbage tbh.
Transfer rate is fucking phenomenal, but the latency is absolute trash.
Even if the mechanical linkage was the initial reason for the design, the design still holds value in basically spreading out the letters in such a way that it minimizes the need for fingers to be constantly used for the typical words that we use in the English language. You don’t want all the vowels to be on the left hand, for example, you want these letters spread out so that you get roughly even utilization of the fingers when typing.
You know how they’ve been saying “Xbox isn’t going away! Xbox isn’t dying!”
What if they announce an Xbox SteamDeck 🤣
