Looks like those XYZs ended up being irrelevant to my situation (figured as much seeing as looking online didn’t give me much information).

I needed to reinstall plasma-x11-session per a recent update since I still use x11.

I am indeed using X11. I tried using Wayland ~a few months ago (on one or both of my setups, wish I could remember) and it did not work very nicely for me so I just stuck with X11, which so far has worked perfectly for what I do.

I’m not entirely sure what error I’m looking for here in particular so I’m taking a guess that “Activation request for ‘org.freedesktop.XYZ’ failed: The systemd unit ‘dbus-org.freedesktop.XYZ.service’ could not be found.” is the one I’m looking for (XYZ because there are a few of these such errors with just the XYZ changing between them).

Is this the same error you got?

Depends on the mood I’m in. Lately, I’ve been drawing in a tiny sketchbook I bought because a little sketchbook isn’t very intimidating, and I can just do a few quick practice drawings or commit to a small but detailed piece for an hour.

Another thing I like to do is lay on my back with my headphones on, put on some music, and do literally nothing except stare at the ceiling and listen to all the little details of my favorite songs that I don’t hear when I’m doing other stuff. It’s my form of meditation since “normal” meditation has never worked for me personally.

Yeah, I can confirm this. I’ve been using Linux for around two years at this point and having a Linux-using friend made the transition at the start way easier. Now I’m the Linux-using friend for all of my Linux-curious friends and it’s great.

I had a slightly screwed up Fedora install due to being a noob with an NVIDIA 1060 and little clue on their drivers. I hooked my laptop up to an old TV (720p if that tells you how old it is lol) and… my entire desktop got absolutely screwed up. Everything was stuck in 4:3 resolution for some reason and my icons got bloated (for lack of a better term). I tried to fix it but IIRC, it just got worse and I had to reinstall.

I’m not sure which programs you’re using so hopefully something here can help but here’s some stuff I’ve read/done:

• For MS Office, I believe you can just use it in your web browser or use LibreOffice as an alternative.
• If you use anything Adobe-based, you’ll probably have to keep a Windows partition around or find an alternative. I haven’t seen anything for running Adobe in WINE or WINE-based tools and I’m not sure if Adobe functions in a virtual machine or not.
• Most gaming-related issues can be dealt with via Proton (Steam’s compatibility tool). I’ve successfully gotten just about every game I play to run in Proton, with the only issues being EA’s launcher (the game still launches though).

Found my hobby

I’ve been using Mint for a few months now after initially trying Fedora and Kubuntu. Mint has been by far my favorite experience and I’ve even gotten a few people converted to Linux via Mint. Definitely my recommendation for any Linux newbies.

It makes a copy of your entire system automatically (and your home folder if you want it to) so, in the event that you break something and can’t/don’t want to fix it, you can go back to your most recent back-up from before you messed your system up. I’ve had to use it a few times because I installed some drivers for my drawing tablet that broke more than they fixed and I didn’t want to deal with the pain in the ass of removing them and all of the dependencies they installed.

As someone who switched to Linux primarily because of Windows 11’s never ending BS (bugs, resource mismanagement, etc) and the inevitably end of Windows 10, I can confirm that Windows 10 will be my last.

I have an NVIDIA 1060 and it is such a pain in the ass to deal with. The number of random problems I’ve had with it has put me off from ever buying a computer with NVIDIA hardware ever again. Save yourself the constant walking on eggshells and get AMD.
