Not at all. I didn’t mean to imply it was plagued with issues, but I did run into them every now and then. Nothing I couldn’t ever resolve either but it’s still not something I’d recommend to a novice unless they are open to potentially breaking their system in a way that may be unknown to them.

I exclusively use Debian stable. I ran unstable for a while but in general I never felt like it gave me anything I needed. I also do not recommend running unstable unless you’re very familiar with Debian and are easily able to work out issues. They didn’t come up often, but they did come up.

Technology@lemmy.world•Federal Surveillance Tech Becomes Mandatory in New Cars by 2027English
1·2 months agoHm. Well I certainly agree that privacy invasive stuff is absolutely unwelcome but I’m also a pretty big fan of backup cameras. I bought a 2023 and while it does have the “infotainment” and backup can, outside of that it’s all quite dum and everything outside of like bluetooth paring and general infotainment stuff is all physical buttons.
So really my point is while it is unusual, even brand new vehicles can manage to avoid the privacy nightmare.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Theoretically speaking, if one wanted to sail the seas while being not very tech savvy – is using a VPN (Mullvad) enough? I would never, of course… but theoretically?
7·4 months agoMulvad is great but if you need port forwarding you’ll have to look elsewhere as they no longer provide that feature.

34·1 year agoAre either of those brands designed with the same level of user serviceability in mind?
The main drive for framework is how easy they are to repair or mod along with their varying degrees of modularity (such as their swappable ports).

Set up what you want on what you already have and if your workload is more than your hardware can handle then upgrade.
Overall most of what you rattled off isn’t too resource heavy but 12gb of memory isnt exactly a lot and i dont know what your minecraft server will eat up.
Alternatively look up the recommended minimum specs for each of your desired applications and add up the needs.
Additionally if this isnt going to be a headless system and you want a desktop gui that consumes resources as well.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•can you boot a server if someone tries to connectEnglish
61·1 year agoThat sounds more or less to be exactly what I’m doing with NPM currently. I don’t see how it’s easier to configure as all I did was fire up the NPM container, log in, and add my host targets.
NPM also handles SSL both standard http verification as well as DNS auth for wildcards.

+1 for restic. I have additionally started using autorestic with it and have been happy how it operates.

I have static IPs. That is going to be a required item for hosting email.
My main point is that it is seemingly impossible to tell what Microsoft has and has not shit listed because may operate their own internal list which isn’t published.
I’m somewhat of the opinion though that more people should self host email and try to be a thorn in the side of these corps implementing arbitrary rules. If more people aren’t receiving email more reports about I will be generated and that will hopefully result in more people like us getting our email successfully delivered.

Any recommendations for getting into this? And does it save any money or is it purely for quality?
