Oh god, I just moved here please no. Lol. No AfD, ideally no CDU either. I just want to live in a country doing well and moving in a progressive direction where everything is getting better. Bitte.

Genuinely surprised that Western media painted the CDU a salvation front against the AfD, but their Wahlsprogramm was equally, if not more bigoted and extremist than the AfD (at least on paper)

I think a lot of Western media is owned by the ultra wealthy or are incompetent. The CDU is clearly, for my sake, analogous to Republicans in the US pre-trump. They serve corporate masters, their policies are not based in scientific knowledge aimed at improving the lives of their constituents, and they will continue to make most everything they touch worse slowly. The CDU will slowly lead the country into needing either a non-corporate serving left response or the far right who will offer false but powerful narratives about how their corporate serving conservative based policies will be totally different than the CDU’s.

It’s just… It’s predictable and sad. We need to strengthen our education systems, our media systems, and create better systems for getting local people involved in local issuesbl and making a difference because I think that’s a good booster against bullshit politicians.

CDU is AfD light. While CDU “merely” fists us in the bum to enrichen the rich, AfD would do the same but with the jackhammer. It’s so obvious and yet people keep eating up their shit and think they will do any better. The protest voters will be in for a rude awakening. Just like Trump voters.

Yes, socially. But also a weird flavor of Japanese conservatism economically. She supports strong economic interventionism, massive stimulus funded by additional debt, cash distribution, etc. Not at all a free market type.

I was commenting the other day on how she says that Margaret Thatcher is her greatest hero, but that she’s an advocate of economic policy more in line with Shinzo Abe’s stuff, which really isn’t in line with Thatcher.

IIRC Liz Truss had some similar statement, and the policy that she went for during her time as Prime Minister was also pretty loose.

Real bro. It’s like there’s nowhere to run. Except up through Normandy beach when D-Days comes.

It’s like that crazy plot from Hellsing Ultimate when the nazis tried to resurrect themselves for a third world war with the goal of world domination and there were millions of souls of deceased people and soldiers in London or something like that, I honestly don’t remember it got pretty crazy.

But it feels as outrageous as that.

People understand that their position is getting worse and worse every year. The liberal parties are all promising to stay the course and maybe throw a couple bones to token minority groups. The conservatives are promising to punish all the dirty minorities that ruined everything and make it all better. Your average voter has no political inclination and when one group says they aren’t gonna change anything, and the other offers radical change, it’s not surprising why voters will go for the change option.

Wish this post was higher up. It’s literally an Us vs Them mentality.

Minorities and the majority both desperately vying for their own interests instead of working together. The ending won’t be pretty.

It’s striking how little many people know about history and politics, but more concerning is how little they care. My old coworkers just don’t seem to care much. And they won’t even feel shame because their only priority seems to be protecting their ego.

Reminds me of Brent from The Good Place, honestly. “No. No. I’m a good person. I’m a good person!!”

Why are all these women conservative? What’s there to gain for them? I feel like conservative views work against women rather than for them? At least that’s what I’ve grown up believing.

Since no one else said it yet, it’s called “pulling up the ladder behind you”.

The only way to get ahead of being subjugated is to become one of the subjugators yourself. It’s been most women politicians go to move in modern history, “Join the ruling class before I’m beneath their heel” as the only solution their brains can come up with for survival, even though in the end that always ends up happening anyway.

“First they came for the communists…”

I don’t they care about other women. Or people in general. If you an upper class woman running for politics then such policies would never affect you personally. Consequences are for “lesser” people.

This is just what she choose to built her political career upon, because such views are popular in Japan and therefore she would be able garner support and boring base. What matters is that it will get her to power. I sincerely doubt she actually believes into any of that.

Japan? Progressive? Japan is hugely patriarchal. I guarantee this lady is nothing more than a face for the all-male leadership behind her.
