    Makes sense considering most everything new uses M.2 these days, but bad news for those of us with older systems we still leverage that only have SATA.

      Not only older systems, a lot of (home) storage servers still use sata ssd cause its proven tech and hotswappable (and easy to do so).
      This is bad in every way to look at it, and everything to do with samsung selling the nand chips to other places with a bigger margin

      Yeah, honestly that seems like the most likely option. You get a glorified dumb terminal that accesses a compute instance under corporate control.
