    I’m gonna throw this out there:

    If Meta is going to join the fediverse (or implement something with activitypub) there is absolutely nothing we can do to stop them.

    It’s an open protocol. They can use it.

    The only thing we can do is force them to follow the AGPL and/or fork the code if they get crazy with change requests.

      My initial concern is them overloading development, and gaining a monopolous share in determining how it evolves. We can’t stop them from using the protocol, but we should attempt to preserve the original spirit of the protocol despite corporate involvement. And yes, forking is one tool that could become necessary to achieve that aim. Right now it is easy to feel optimistic, but… Let’s try our best and see what happens.
