I did an informal study on this!
This will happen less and less as you age, but also some coping mechanisms are better than others!
Intellectualization, (this feeling helps me become a better person) helps, but is actually not the best coping mechanism. The best coping mechanisms are:
- normalization (this happens to everyone)
- supression (allowing yourself to think the thought but also allowing your mind to move on/mindfully being aware of the thought but refusing to allow it to occupy you)
- Humor (omg yes LOL I DID THAT that’s funny as shit)
