I’m not sure exactly how it broke, but I think it was probably when I tried to lift the battery out of it. After that the track pad completely stopped working. Is there a connection I bumped loose, or did i break it?

Which model of laptop is it?
It’s been a while since I’ve worked on a laptop, but they usually had a ribbon cable connecting the trackpad. I would open it back up and check for any loose or broken connections.
You could check ifixit for your model, they usually have teardown guides and may have more specific info.
Awesome thanks. Its an HP omen 15. Its easy to work on but the battery is seemingly glued in so I’m guessing the cable is underneath but I don’t want to force anything.
Wow, that is a complicated teardown! That’s even worse than some phones.
I found this guide, https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/HP+Omen+15-ax243dx+Keyboard+Replacement/100786 which shows the whole process. It looks like the ribbon cable for the track pad comes around front, though.
I think it’s the middle one on the left in this picture: https://guide-images.cdn.ifixit.com/igi/wTXxlgFcJW6nFZJJ.large
I would open it back up and check that cable before going any farther.
Awesome! Thanks so much. I’m kinda scares but I’m gonna do it tonight. Seriously, thanks for the leg work
