Does the EU really have a good reputation as it is? People call it the Fourth Reich for a reason.

The people calling the EU the fourth reich are the same people that will unironically say that Hitler wasn’t so bad, and actually did some good things for Germany. They’re right up there with the people that call Biden “Genocide Joe” despite the fact that he has never committed genocide against anybody, and then talk about how great Stalin and Mao were.

Biden IS financing Israel though. That’s depite bipartisan support for a ceasefire.

Every president the US has had since 1948 has financed and supported Israel, with the full support of congress, regardless of what rhetoric those congressmen are spewing in the run-up to an election year. Congress sets the budget, and they sign off on giving Israel money every single year so don’t act like this is just Biden throwing money at them.

Every president after Biden will continue to do so as well. Israel is shitty but every other country in the region is exponentially shittier. That being said, I’m not happy with the way this is being handled either, but don’t pretend like Biden is handling things any differently than every president for the last 80 years - with the possible exception of Jimmy Carter - would have done.

Really? Every other country is exponentially worse? I can’t think of anything that, say, Jordan or even Iraq does worse than Israel.

Ok, you got me, only 90% of the countries in the region are exponentially worse, two of them are just worse on a strictly linear scale.

Yes I think countries that routinely decapitate gay people, beat women to death with rocks for not wearing the right hat, condone or at the very least ignore the rape of women and children, and cut peoples hands off for shoplifting, whose atrocities only can’t be called genocide because it’s the same ethnic group killing each other, are worse than Israel, didn’t realize that was such a hot take. I’m not saying Israel is good, I’m just saying the US, along with most of Europe, has chosen to back the one country in the region that at least pretends to have western values.

And that is still genocidal garbage, regardless of how long it has been going for.

They still post, they just don’t buy ad space. The actual news is: More and more advertisers jump ship (IBM did, too), because they don’t want to get in trouble financing unhinged extremist bullshit.

They don’t want the possible negative backlash of being associated with unhinged extremist bullshit. If unhinged extremist bullshit was popular enough to be profitable then they’d be all aboard. Corporations do whatever is profitable.

Fair enough, I still find it hard to see how it fits this comm, but it is a bit better in that context.

I wished for the bare minimum of decency, and Elon the Nazi sympathizer failed to deliver. If I wanted a social network full of right-wing nutjobs, I would have just signed up with Truth or Gab. Maybe you’d be more comfortable there, though.

I’m pretty sure it’s the nazi propaganda that’s annoying. Poor Elmo though, all alone with his drugs and his white power and his billions of dollars and international governmental tie-ins. Dadgum hippies just like hatin’ on him to be “cool” and “hip”.

It’s frequent enough that I still see a lot of posts despite having filters for “Musk”, and “Elon Musk” and “Twitter”. I figured I probably can’t block “X” without blocking a lot of unrelated posts since it’s just a letter in the alphabet. I wonder if that was intentional.

I don’t want to block things people post on Twitter about subjects of interest, I just don’t want my feed constantly flooded with news about Twitter.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

The European Commission has decided to stop advertising on social media platform X, owned by Elon Musk, over “widespread concerns relating to the spread of disinformation,” according to an internal note obtained by POLITICO’s Brussels Playbook.

X has been under growing scrutiny in Europe as a result of the bloc’s new content moderation law, the Digital Services Act (DSA).

POLITICO reported this month that the institution’s home affairs department had targeted ads in September at groups of X users based on their religious and political beliefs, including users categorized as “anti-Christian” or those interested in Italian leader Giorgia Meloni or Irish nationalist party Sinn Féin.

The advertising campaign aimed at propping up support for the Commission’s controversial proposal for a law that could force social media and messaging platforms to scan all user content for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) — a proposal that critics say would violate privacy and would effectively break encrypted communications.

Spinant’s letter warned services that buying ads which target user profiles based on sensitive personal data would be in breach of the DSA.

“It is essential that our advertising respects scrupulously the spirit and the letter of the rules that we seek to enforce as regulator for very large online platforms,” the official wrote.
