I really question how much overlap there is in the Venn diagram of “people who pay for television”, “people who hate Fox News”, and “users of Lemmy”. I can’t imagine it is very big.

In few years watching Fox is a civic duty and participation will be tracked. Non-compliers will be made in to a cheap labor force in reeducation camps.

You should read about the Rupert Murdoch inheritance case. He lost, and it may end up being the most impactful thing in media for a long time.

Hopefully we’ll get some good souls who figure out how to block Fox into the background while you still get Trump Social Media Credits™️ for watching while doing other things.

I had no idea this happened, and now all I can think is that the writers of the HBO series Succession were coming from a very real place. I know the family in that series was inspired by the Murdochs but I didn’t think it was that faithful to reality.

You know propaganda has been effective when its intended victim does not know that they were a victim. If it’s on television via any news source, it is propaganda.

I’m really tired of the “protect our democracy” shtick. On the one hand, it’s hypocritical to “protect democracy” from people voting wrong. Secondly, if democracy is going to be perpetually on life support, it’s defenders can only hope for survival and abandon fantasies of a democracy that grows or thrives.
