so i just installed lethal company (with mods) and chained together. and in both games i got a boost from 40FPS to over 100FPS! so i am curios what the reason may be?
both games seem to be not too optimised, also in chained together i get 20FPS in DX12 mode but ~110 in DX11 so whats up with that?
also lethal company finally uses more than 40% of my gpu and cpu now, for some reason? i assume this plays part in the performance jump.

Lenovo might have intentionally reduced the performance in Windows by default to enhance battery life, because it is a gaming laptop they probably have a lot of performance options in the vendor’s control center to sacrifice battery life for performance, are you sure you activated every performance option?
Also mesa drivers often have better performance than Radeon official drivers, but they are less consistent (more stuttering).
i doubt it has to do with oem settings as that was not the original windows install, but rather a complete fresh install on a new drive. i think the second reason might be the explanation
Looks like an issue with your windows install. I would check in the settings that you’re not in power saving mode or something like that, it could reduce the power allocation for the GPU and CPU, and it may also disable the dedicated GPU when enabled. It’s true there are some games that are faster in Linux, but it’s usually within 5-10% of Windows, not over double the performance
that was my thougt too, however it is only those 2 games that get such an insane boost, others are within expected variation

thanks. this i actually making those games way more enjoyable to play with freinds. while 40FPS is still playable i sometimes had like 20 FPS which - as you can guess - aint really an enjoyable experience
Apex legends ran around 80 fps upscaled from 1080 to 1440p on win 10.
On Linux it ran at 120 fps + on native 1440p and eliminated the majority of stuttering

I mean, yeah. Pretty much every Linux version runs a lot lighter than Windows, nowadays.
There’s a lot of reasons, but I think the main one is that Windows has to be suitable for so many different uses, while each Linux distro can specialize.
Getting my games working on Linux used to be a pain in the ass, but the actual gameplay has always been a better experience, for me.
i know that linux aint that bloated, but that doesnt explain a performance increase of 150% in exactly 2 games
Lethal company is d3d11. I’d be curious as to what happens when you play it on windows with DXVK.
I’d also be curious as to whether you’re using Eco mode in Adrenalin on windows, or technologies like Radeon Chill.
i basically enabled all performance boosts (except the ai stuff like frame generation) and disabled all limiting settings (like chill)
Huh strange. Fwiw fluid motion frames is algorithmic, it’s not an AI feature.
I’d still be intereted in how DXVK fares in the windows side. Given you’re using a NV23 dGPU, I have a pretty solid theory as to what might be going on here, though I’m a little confused as to why windows behaves differently from Linux since power management firmware is a shared object.
Does this behave the same on battery and wall power?
no, on battery it enters energy saving so performance drops significantly. but every situation i talked about was on wall power, and it is to be assumed the default situation for gaming.
also to test your theory i would need to reinstall windows, which is to much of a bother when i shouldve been asleep like 2 hours ago to be rested for work

Idk about amd laptops, but is there a possibility your computer was using integrated graphics in Windows, and Linux is using the dedicated GPU? How’s your battery life changed?
i doubt that as i specifically selected dedicated graphics in the bios. no changes to my battery life in that regard.
The 40% resource usage is just confusing to me, or why it was limited. makes sense if OS uses all the GPU now, you get much more frames! Heh
trust me that confused me too in windows but i never found a solution 🤷
