The thorium-powered reactors do not need water as a coolant, meaning they can be built in remote deserts alongside wind and solar power plants.

This isn’t news, NaH (Molten Salts) reactors are a thing too. Requiring no water either to keep things cooled (however they can be combined in order to turn traditional steam turbines making it a more “drop in” replacement for coal powered plants).
