  • Started this year with CDs, games, vinyl, books and DVDs. Buying second-hand is great too; sure, streaming looks “cheaper” at first glance but I can do with my property what I want and don’t lose it if I can’t afford a subscription, the service goes down or they lose licenses. It’s preservation, too, and if need be can be lent out to others.

Plus, I’m just discovering the joys of making my own mixtapes and burning CDs. Spotify playlists are… good, of course, but it feels like an actual thing now.

  • Boardgames I would love to have but nobody I know has any interest in them and has last played one in childhood.

But the DVD/CD thing is really neat. Thrifting in stores or online in general has become a lot of fun and I’ve gotten family into it as well, especially with CDs and vinyls. Also saves a lot of money and it helps with prioritizing what you are really interested in. I still have the occasional streaming service but looking at which movies/series/music we own physically, I may be more selective if only physical products are available. Not having to worry about content suddenly disappearing due to licensing rights is MUCH better anyway.
