I wonder if Android Wear wouldn’t work as an OS basis for this - lower power requirements, probably allows black-and-white screens. The problem there is that Android Wear is absolute hot garbage that can’t decide if it’s stand-alone or companion to your phone.

Why is not just targeting raw AOSP instead of Google Android not considered? It seems like you could use modern hardware with that… is it the lack of Play Store that’s the dealbreaker?

Yup. The game is pretty overrated, imho, but its aesthetic was amazing. No lighting system, everything was hand-shaded with textures that really got the Megaman look. One of a kind style.

Imho the problem with the 3D-era pokemon games isn’t that they look low-fi, it’s that they look low-fi in a boring way. Like they were built from asset-store content from 15 years ago.

edit: also, number of instances doesn’t matter. Number of daily active users matters. Most users are on mastodon.social, mastodon.cloud, lemmy.world, hachyderm.io, lemmy.world, etc. And all of those are federating. The only large instance that is not federating with threads is mas.to

Tags are a workaround for bad search systems. They’ve been a solution looking for a problem since platforms started getting better at search.

Imho, Mastodon should be using hashtags like subreddits/lemmy-communities (they have moderators who can control what gets posted under that hashtag) then they’d have a real reason to exist on that platform now that they’ve got proper search, especially since a F/OSS platform like Mastodon has difficulty with moderating.

Fundamentally blockchains are about hyper-redundant indestructable storage with expensive costs for writing to that storage to prevent flooding it with garbage. The most mature and sophisticated blockchain that doesn’t involve burning down a forest to solve sudokus is the Ethereum network, which is probably the one to point to when we’re talking about a large blockchain, and that’s one that uses the subcurrency of “gas” to model paying for recording into that ledger.

Yes, but crypto keys recorded with an owner in a public ledger, so there’s a clear single owner.

Problem there is the gas cost of blockchain is too high. Recording transactions on chain is expensive. It might be worthwhile for full game transfers, but for cosmetics? I doubt that.
