Asklemmy@lemmy.ml•How would you schedule a post to Facebook after your death?
41·3 days agoI wouldn’t. I don’t use Facebook now, so why would I post anything to it upon my death?

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Did 9/11 cause a statistically visible "anti-babyboom"?
3·11 days agoI’ve never seen a study on it. There may well be some limited effect within the US for that specific period, but I’d be very surprised if it persisted. It could have also gone the other way… a bunch of people decided it was ‘the end-times’, so they all had unprotected sex like crazy to cope and ‘go out with a bang’ (pun intended).

The (613) is the area code. That is specifically allocated for use in the Ottawa area. There are precise databases/maps. Of course, an area code can have very little with where one lives these days. I live in the Pacific Northwest and have an area code for the Midwest because that is where I was when I got my cellular phone.
The 745 is the ‘exchange’. It was a way for an area code to be broken down into smaller groups. Sometimes that would be regions of a town/county/etc. or it could be for a large business, a University, government, etc.
One final note on the area code… there are a finite number of phone numbers that can be created within one area code. Sometimes a region’s population/businesses will grow and create a shortage of phone numbers. When this happens the area covered by one area code will be restructured so that on area keeps the code and the rest of the area gets a new code.
Edit:
In this case they even had a completely different install of Windows. There is simply no way at all that the fingerprint should match. If it did match, then their implementation sucks. Fuck them if they made it that bad intentionally. Better to have to catch and ban the same person 10 times than ban an innocent person even once.
Their fingerprinting is flawed if this story is true. If I take someone else’s CPU and drop it into what is otherwise different hardware then the fingerprint should absolutely change. If it doesn’t then their fingerprinting is broken and this is going to happen whether any particular CPU has been banned or not.
It seems far more plausible that someone got themselves banned and they’re lying to try to get out of it.
If they are banning on a single piece of hardware such as a single CPU, then they are morons.
Sounds like FUD… I want to see it confirmed by someone reputable with an explanation before believing it.

7·26 days agoIf the US had universal healthcare then I’d already retire. As is, $5m isn’t safe to retire with health issues/needs

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is it okay for a member of the autism spectrum like me to use the R word?
2·2 months agoOnly in the proper context. For instance, it’s perfectly fine to say, “The foam retarded the fire as designed and saved many lives.”
If you’re meaning the former disability-related meaning that is now widely considered offensive when applied to a person, why would you possibly want to? There are more appropriate words to use.

Mostly density and scale…
