While pulling teeth is still quite barbaric, replacing teeth uses quite a lot of modern technology. For example 3D scans and 3D printing are common tools in creating dentures these days

8·2 months agoWhen the dot com bubble bursted, the typical internet speed was 56k modem speed and cellular internet practically didn’t exist. At that point the internet still needed years of exponential technological advancement to allow for stuff like streaming amd mobile services. The difference with the AI bubble is that they try to brute force their way out of infancy by throwing ludicrous amounts of money, energy and other recources at it instead of waiting for the much needed technological progress

4·2 months agoMaybe I’m gonna be bashed for this but isn’t this a good solution?
No, it’s an absolutely horrible solution. It’s yet another tax to the average Joe, playing out people with and without children against each other, while the rich continue to hoard more and more wealth, draining everyone else dry. The government is planning to reduce the benefits of parents at the very same time, so their goal is most certainly not some fairness or balance between parents and non-parents, they just fuck everyone over for the benefit of a few rich elites.

4·3 months agoAdditionally:
- if you’re severely overweight, some cardio routines can be a serious health risk. If you’re way too heavy, your joints won’t be able to sustain long walks or jogging
- slow and steady wins the race. Don’t expect yourself to lose all the excess weight in a matter of months. That’s almost impossibly difficult and even if successful likely no healthy. Instead develop healthy habits and let the results come in naturally over time

3·3 months agoNah, I’m 100% with you. I love riding my bike outside, the fluidity of movement, leaning into bends and corners, the breeze of fresh air and so much more that’s simply lacking on a trainer.

Games@lemmy.world•60% of PC gamers have no plans to build a new PC in the next two years — AI pricing crunch on RAM and other components paralyze enthusiast marketEnglish
8·3 months agoMy desktop PC is already significantly more powerful than my Steam Deck, yet I game on my Steam Deck significantly more. I don’t see any point in upgrading my PC when indy games that run on a potato are more fun than poorly optimized AAA slop that somehow manages the lag the fuck out of the best hardware money can buy.
Is Meta even active in China or are they blocked by the CCP? If so you can remove 1.4 billion people from the list of potential users, meaning an even crazier market saturation

I’m quite happy with my 8BitDo 2 Ultimate, which has many features of the Steam Controller like TMR sticks, 4 extra rear buttons and gyro and has a better polling rate at 1000 Hz and is cheaper (~$56). It does however lack the track pads and advanced haptic feedback of the Steam Controller.

Europe@feddit.org•Trump envoy seeks to replace Iran with Italy at World Cup, says reportEnglish
9·4 months agoTrying to force Iran out of the World Cup is insanity on it’s own, but trying to force Italy in is another insanity on its own. Should Iran be unable to compete for whatever reason, their spot should probably go to Bolivia or Jamaica, who were defeated in the final round of the intercontinental playoffs, or maybe to the United Arab Emirates as the best team from their confederation that didn’t qualify.
Serious answer: it’s comparing apples to oranges. For the B-2 the total cost of the program was about $45 billion and about double that in today’s dollars. You get that two billion figure if you divide the total program cost by the 21 B-2s built, but you could’ve never developed and built a singular B-2 for just the unit price. And that’s still double of GTA after adjusting for inflation

4·4 months agoI know that the year of the Linux desktop is a bit of a meme but that’s why I was referencing it. That said, the year of the Linux desktop has long come for me personally and only my desktop PC still has a Windows partition but I don’t know when I last booted into it. I won’t immediately ditch my Android phone, but I’m excited to test the viability of a Linux phone for me personally

Professional pizza ovens do reach temperatures between 350°C and 500°C. So 420°C isn’t unreasonable for a pizza, your oven at home probably won’t get that hot though.
