I don’t personally want any eye contact, so I now how much eye contact is the right amount, and I end up making brief eye contact because I know I should, then looking away because it’s uncomfortable and I don’t want it to be too much. And I lose my train of thought in the process. It’s so much easier to talk to people if I can look in their general direction but not in their eyes.

Yeah I was the family scapegoat. I’ve been able to forgive (mostly) but can’t forget. I try to be there for my parents - visits, checking on them, etc - but I hold them at arm’s length emotionally. They want real closeness but I just can’t open myself up to that. And I feel guilty about it but then I remind myself that it’s their own fault. You reap what you sow!

Well I suppose the British pronunciation would be Eee-oar as well, but the ‘oar’ would probably sound more like ‘aww’ instead of the American R at the end. So Eee-aww sounds sort of like the ‘hee-haw’ sound a donkey might make.
